HTC 8525 Storage Space?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm a convert, new to WinMo, been a Symbian supporter for 5+ years...so WinMo is new to me.

I have a noobish question. I've been loading ringtones, and .cab files onto my phone and seem to be running low on storage.

1. How do I tell how much space is left on my phone?
2. What files can I delete to make some room for important stuff?

I've searched the forum...but haven't found anything conclusive yet.

Thanks!

xj

Go to Start > Settings > System > Memory.

I can't help you with the second question since I don't have AT&T and couldn't give you any specific file/program removal advice.

thanks that helps alot...I'll see if I can search on the at&t forums for the other question.

Which version of WM are you running, if you are still at 5, head over to HTCs site and get the official ATT WM 6 ROM, its decently clean (nothing compaired to the cooked ROMs).

From there you can get rid of Xpress Mail (if you dont use it), that will be on the list of Remove Programs in Settings. Then delete MusicID, MobiTV, and XMRadio folders from /Program Files/ again unless you subscribe to XM Radio or MobiTV, they are worthless.

After that I would be a 1gig or 2 gig microSD card and install all of the apps there, don't forget to re-configure all of the other apps (Camera, Notes, Office apps) to save by default to the microSD card.

Hope this helps.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks again...I've already got the WM6 official HTC ROM...going to delete those folders and grab a 1GB card.

Here's an interesting question, I see alot of modified "Today" screens that look alot like the new "Touch" with big numbers and more apps on the home screen.

How the heck do I do that?

2 gig cards are under $20 Amazon

8 gig cards are being released soon for a little more than $100 http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=158255

...which will drive down the lower ones even more. 2 gig will be used quickly, try to go as high as you can!

Also, you may want to check out this Memory Management program, it is on sale at PocketGear right for for $16.99. I did the trial, and then bought it. It is very user friendly, and will allow you to keep your memory in check easier.

I upgraded to WM6 and now have an ATT xpress mail and a Cingular xpress mail folder...do I need both? I do use xpress mail to access my yahoo account.

By deleting the other stuff you suggested I went from 3MB free to 6

Check out XDA Forums for "HTC Home"

Also take a look at this site for a program that lets you customize HTC Home.

I would say get rid of the Cingular version. Although I would check first, which one you have registered to the yahoo account (open both of them up and see which one has yahoo)
