Well,

If the fact that I am writing you guys at 5:00am is not a testament to how crazy my evening has been, then I dont' know what is....

Ok...First as a precursor to this post, please read this thread:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1276667

Keep in mind that I am IPSF unlocked on the particular unit that I am using.

I've been running 1.1.2 for a few days and up to this point, everything seemed fine - I felt that there were a few bugs in 1.1.2 firmware / jailbreak method, but no show-stoppers. Anyhow, I post a few things on the forum, and a few members gladly came to my rescue - in this particular case, it was suggesting I try a few different lockdownd files. After replacing my current WORKING file, I booted up to receive absolutely no signal on my phone. CRAP. Ok, I restored to my original lockdownd file (which I backed up just in case), rebooted and...NOTHING...how could one file cause so much damage???

Anyhow, I tried a few other files and I could not get service back - eventually, I just decided that it was the unreadiness of the jailbreak/activate process that was the cause of the problem and decided to downgrade.

I wanted to start brand new, so I took the phone down to 1.0.2 firmware followed by the BB downgrade which went smoothly - I then upgraded my unit to 1.1.1 and attemped my usual jail/activate, CARNAVAL 0.7. Everything seems fine until I go and run the batch file, and it tells me that my phone was not jailbroken. So, I repeated the process a few times, restored, repeated the TIFF exploit process a few more times, but to no avail.

Now, it was time to try Jailbreakme.com. This method seemed to work well, but left directory structures slightly messy for my liking, so that's why I had been avoiding it, even though I have used this method to unlock a few friends' phones.

Knowing the process quite well, I could not get the phone to reboot automatically after installing the AppSnapp via GUI. It just stayed there on the activation screen for a long time.

SOMETHING WAS SERIOIUSLY WRONG

At this point, I decided to use BIG BOSS's method of virginizing, but at the end of the process it returned the .FLS error that you would get if your secpack was wrong. I downgraded to 1.0.2 and dowgraded the baseband and ran the virginizing script again right afterwards. This time it worked, and I was back to 1.0.2.

Here's where it gets interesting: I started getting 'incorrect SIM' errors in 1.0.2 after activating and jailbreaking the unit to test. My phone would not pick up a signal. 'Of Course!' you say, 'you just virginized the thing, you bloody fool!!". However, I hadn't seen this message for a long time on this particular unit. Why?

BECAUSE I WAS RUNNING IPSF - Yep, this phone was unlocked using IPSF 1.6 back when 1.1.1 first came out. So, what happend? Did my virginizing shenannigans kill my IPSF??

Natually, I go online to IPSF's page and download the new version (1.7) - I run it, and everything seems to go fine - until the very end. I received a "Comm Center" error.

Oh Crap....

Was I dead in the water here? Did I just kill my phone?

As a last resort, I downloaded and installed the only thing I could....

ANYSIM 1.1

To my surprise, AnySIM 1.1 ran without a hitch or error and reported my phone to be unlocked after the proces...I rebooted, and had reception again!!!!!!!!! HOW COULD THIS BE????

Wait a minute here...I started off with a 1.1.1 unlocked using IPSF a few days ago - upgraded to 1.1.2, downgraded, virginized and some relocked my phone...

...Only to run AnySIM 1.1.

Who would have thought? Any input on how this might have happend?

Cheers,

L.

and this ladies and gentleman is why I am perfectly fine with an unlocked 1.0.2 using Anysim 1.1

I just don't have the time or effort to deal with all this.

Drakkhen, it sounds like you went through a lot, but at least you got it all figured out! Cheers to that!

I actually don't have it all figured out yet - I'm not sure what's going on in terms of my secpak, or the actual state of my phone - am I going to be able to use IPSF again? It's hard do say...
