Hey Guys so I'm looking for some insite and opinions on video out for the iphone. I bout the universal dock last year, which in theory would have worked great but does not suppot the iphone. It seems like the new universal dock will work, or the apple componant cables will work. Unfortuntely the rca cabled that came with my universal dock don't plug directly into the iphone, even though they are both 1/8th inch the plastic surround wont slide into the recess of the iphone.....man arent apples design engineers smart? how can we make more money? haha ....well can't really complain they make a great product, anyways I wanted to see if anyone else had any luck with video out without buy the $50 componant cables or the $100 newest generation universal dock ? like some sort or more generic cable brand or knock off ?

bought the video cables from apple and the picture is awesome. Like watching a DVD.

No, you'd have to buy the new cables or the new dock.
Apple made the iPhone, Touch, Classic, and new nanos require a certification chip in video cables to work. Right now, I believe only new, Apple-branded cables include such chips (some 3rd party ones are in the works, but I don't think any are out yet).

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the the new dock w/ the older video out cables (not the one that connected to the dock connector, but the one w/ the 1/8" plug)? So if the chip resides in the dock, does it also need to reside in the cable?

Which cable is it, i can't locate it on the Apple site? And whats the price, I would like to order one.

I wish apple would let us output the menu system,cover flow, and now playing to our tv's it would make my mac mini in car project pointless and the result much cheaper
