in north America (US and Canada) , usually phone vendors do not sell their phone by theirself.
all phones are heavy subsidized by service providers, so you can get cheap phone with service contract

LOL...so true!

I would say your best bet is to find a phone import store. At least, that's what I do. I have a few in my area - I look at what they have on their website and if a phone interests me, I go and try out the display model in the store.

wats the names of them near you?

Posted by: JesterMania

You're in the U.S. so the names most likely wouldn't apply at all. There are a TON of them in Pacific Mall, Plus One in First Markham Place, Future Gadgets in Mississauga to name a few... For you, you'll probably have to look around your area or ask around to see what's best. If you're totally lost...check out an Asian mall or something - bound to be 1 or 2 in those places at least.

do u think they wil get htc touch cruise? the one in gta etc "TON of them in Pacific Mall, Plus One in First Markham Place, Future Gadgets in Mississauga"

The original HTC Touch was already out in Pacific Mall 1 week after its official release - I was surprised. So for sure they will get the Touch Cruise, maybe anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Plus One in Markham carries a ton of HTC devices and I called them quite a few times this year to check on various pricing. You'll have to hunt around though for the best pricing (don't forget online stores like ExpanSys, Superior Gadgets, etc.). Main advantage of actually going into the store is to play around with the device first-hand, not really to buy them as warranty is spotty and prices are usually high (I find Plus One to be quite reasonable however).

im mad the touch cruise was 800 on expansys.com why cant phones be cheap lol

that places sell phones imported from China and HK.
full of "water" products , no US and Canada warranty.
None of brand companies (Nokia, SE, HTC etc) officially sell unlocked phones

Yeah, that's why if you read post #10, I stated that the advantage of going into these stores is being able to try out the phone (not buy them) - which was the main topic of this thread (the OP wanted to try before buying). Also, the Sony Store now sells unlocked W810i phones for several hundred dollars. I was shocked the other day but it's true - I think they were selling it for $300 or so...so they do exist but are far and few (in comparison to Europe and Asia). I believe this was in the Eaton Center in Toronto.
