Just as the title says I want to purchase a iphone by the end of the week but I want to be assured it comes with 1.1.1 firmware since unlocking it is so easy. (I've done a couple friends family coworkers bout 10 total every one except me lol)

Whats my best option and what numbers do I check on the box to be sure I recieve a 1.1.1 iphone ?
Looking to purchase at the apple store unless some one gives me a better option

sorry if this has already been covered I did a search and could not come up with anything .

anything guys please I wana buy an iphone later today

Until now you could use the serial number to check which week the phone was manufactured, and we know week 45 is the week that US iPhone came equipped with the new 4.6 bootloader.

However, someone reported that even a week 42 that he got from Apple retail store has the new 4.6 bootloader.

http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/sho...61&postcount=31

It is apparent that they opened the box and upgraded the bootloader of the older stock in the store.
So, your best bet is to go to an AT&T store, but some will sell you one easily while some will not. You need to try your luck.

There's no "definitive" way, but the serial # is the most reliable, based on the week. You can also look for the plant code, to try and make sure you get the coveted 7459072 screen, which doesn't suffer from the negative black issue. Look for a 7x7yy, where x = T/U/V/W (I would look for a V or W, personally; actually, I got a W), and y = 38/39/40/41, which is the week # (I would try for a week 39, personally.) That *should* ensure you got a 1.1.1 with the 7459072 screen.

Damn they (AT&T) wouldn't sell you the phone unless you activated it?
What did they want you to do, activate it right there in front of them?
Freakin AT&T nazi bastards just sell us the stupid phone, collect your money and go about your business.

That's the thing, they don't get their money unless you do ACTIVATE it with AT&T.

Basically they asked for name dl# social etc ... witch I gave them (thought it was part of the screening process or whatever)
they then came back saying they had great news I was aproved !!
And they could activate the phone on the spot ..
I said thats great and everything but I prefer to activate the phone at home ..

They then said I'm sorry sir due to high demand etc they are not allowed to sell iphones unactivated .

I said I would have to think it over etc Got Home gave my mom the money told her to look for any # smaller than 44 in the sn and say she was buying it as a gift . 20 Minutes later she got home said they didn't hassle her or anything they even let her pay with the cash I gave her !!!

thanks hofo

Not sure if that's the new "policy" AT&T is implementing, but it could have just been BS on the part of the store. However, buddy of mine is trying to buy 20+ iPhones for his business (not reselling them, for his employees) and he wants to unlock them to use with his T-Mobile corp. deal he has. He went to two AT&T stores yesterday, and both of them gave him crap when he wouldn't give them his SSN. Weird, 'cause when I bought mine last week, they didn't ask for my SSN. Can't remember if I gave them my AT&T phone # or not, which might explain that.

I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T starts "requiring" activation in the store to try and prevent people from buying & unlocking the iPhone.

I tried to buy a couple in an AT&T store and got 100% shut down unless I signed up for a plan then and there. The lady went from being friendly to bordering on hostile as soon as I indicated I wanted to activate later... it was close to the Canadian border though.

AT&T store shut me down on buy 2 iPhones as a gift today. They wanted to activate them in store also. And I think I cant get any from the apple store either im not sure if there keeping track of the Credit card number or my ID number. But if its the credit card number it should be no problem to get around just get a refill able Visa card that should work.

some ATT stores are being gay, i been to one like three times, but only bought it a iphone from them twice. So i went today, first the dude tells me they had them, he talked to the manager, and the dude goes in the back comes back 2 mins later and tells me they are out of stock and will get some after thanksgiving..lol

i went to a store yesterday, bought 3 iphones, and i thought week 45 was 1.1.1 too, but it wasnt. Good thing i only opened one, so i plan on returing the other unopened ones tommorrow. I hope the unlock for 1.1.2 comes out soon. I bought 3 last week, those were week 44 and had 1.1.1 on them, had no problem unlocking them

Is it safe to give them your phone number and stuff when getting the iphones? Twice i gave them my real number, and then at another store i just gave them some made up number..lol, i mean can they track how many i have bought? Cuz at one of the stores they did ask for my SSN#.

Yeah My mother is an older Hispanic lady They Probably thought she had no idea how to unlock it lol ! (little did they know it was for her son who was just in the store)

She said it was for her daughter who lived in another city who was alreday with att there for there was no need to activate They did try and ask for her made up daughters phone # but she said she did not have it on her.
