cheapest time to add iphone to acct?

I am wondering what date of the billing cycle would be the cheapest to add the iphone to an existing account. By cheapest I mean cheapest prorated fees, most text messages, etc. I have a 1500 plan now and want to switch to the iphone 1500 plan. So what amt. of messages would I have the first month on this date? Billing cycle ends on the 18th, starts 19th. Thanks in advance!

If you want to keep the maximum number of messages you can from your 'old' plan, I'd suggest activating the iPhone within a couple of days.
I activated my iPhone on the last day of my cycle, and it only prorated me a day of use (200 message iPhone plan was around $0.67 for one day). I previously had a PDA plan with 1500 messages (over half used at the time of activating iPhone).

It's possible you'll have more than 1500 messages to work with if you prorate an iPhone plan before the 18th or 19th, but I'd caution against believing this. The iPhone plan is active once added to your account, tracking usage immediately (remember usage takes days to post to an account, just like plain ol' checks). Stick to thinking you'll only have 1500 to work with and you'll be fine.

Additional FYI: When you activate the iPhone [and its plan], make sure that your old data plan was dropped. You don't want to be charged for two data plans at the same time...

Thanks for your help. So you're saying activate 17th-18th and assuming I get the 1500 plan I'll have 1500 messages to start off with (I cancel my exisiting 1500 plan of course, don't have a data plan but unlimited takes effect immediately, correct?). Also does AT&T charge an upgrade/activation feee to exisiting customers?

I think AT&T might actually pro-rate the # of TMs as well, but don't quote me on that.

And yes, there is an upgrade fee, but you can usually get it waived by calling them.

1) Yes, and yes. The iPhone plan takes effect immediately on activation.

2) It's possible you'll get a upgrade fee but I didn't get one. Like Bremen says, you can always call AT&T to waive it if one shows up on your bill.
