What if your phone only has EDGE and GSM? I have a w600i.

Edit: EDGE works.

Posted by: Dragon77

Ok, am I just being stupid here or what? I have the w580i and when I go into Menu->messaging->settings there is no option for Picture Message or MMS Profile. What am I missing???

Thanks!!!

www.wireless.att.com/device-support choose the w300i. It is very similar and use it as a reference point.

Better yet, have all the settings send automatic from SE.

That doesn't always work. Never has worked for me. This is why I have this sticky here because a lot of people have the same problem with the SE website.

Thanks mod for the clarify.

I just check my internet setting on my K850 that was sent automatic from SE's site.

under proxy setting, HTTP, my proxy address is 066.209.011.032 and port is 8080 which aren't the same as the first post.

Should i change it to the first post or leave it like that? whats the difference?

thanks!

Posted by: Baldilocks

^ If it is working, just leave it alone

Posted by: kidnaper

I had the same settings as USAF_ICE and it worked before, but went to send one now and got a com error, entered these settings and sent like a charm. thanks!

With AT&T, you may find that when you add an RSS feed to the built in reader, it will tell you it is an invalid feed. I was quite frustrated by this until I found a post by anandman, who said:

"I use AT&T Wireless in the US and found that if I remove the Cingular HTTP proxy from the connection settings, this fixes similar problems I've been having finding, adding, and updating feeds. My guess is the proxy was reformatting the RSS XML."

Sure enough, this solved my problem. All I had to do was turn off the proxy and my feeds all load property now. The only downside I have found so far, is that I can't access the Media Net site. But all other web sites seem to load fine.

This may be a temporary problem, but for now, this totally resolves my problem with RSS feeds. If I have to go to the media net site, I can just turn the proxy back on. But I rarely go there anyway

I figured that this bit of info was important enough to be added to this sticky.

EDIT: I just realized that with proxy setting off, you can't receive MMS's. Bad. But what I am now testing it whether you can turn off the proxy, add the feed, then turn back on the proxy. I am not sure if that works yet.

EDIT #2: Nope, won't work.

Is it possible to just duplicate the MEdiaNet settings (another profile) sans the proxy settings?

Posted by: Paco

Great idea! So I now have 2 internet profiles. #1 includes the proxy, #2 does not. Under Internet settings, I have the #2 selected. Then in Messages -> Settings -> Picture message -> MMS profile, I have 'Connect using' set to #1.

This resolves the MMS issue. And, if other problems do crop up, I can easily switch to #1.

All of these issues are related to using the OLD AT&T service.

I think I've really tried to get both of these to work. I've talked with a very patient AT&T rep for over an hour. I've had MMS and Internet patches from the SE website sent, twice (yes, the ones for the OLD AT&T Service). I've completely lost SMS ability (this doesn't even make sense!) in the process and had to Master Reset...

I've got SMS working again. I've compared all my settings to those suggested is this Sticky... I still can't send or recieve pictures or get on the internet.

Ugh. What am I not doing right??

To comment on my experience:

W580i with AT&T

Just de-branded with Wotan...yeah I know, I'm a wuss

Phone automatically downloaded my WAP settings. I setup MMS by using Baldilocks' instructions. All works fine now.

Good deal!! Glad everything is working out for you. But you need to thank a9ballbr8k as he is the one that originally posted the settings.

{I didn't think this deserved an entire new thread, and I can't find an old thread about this... sorry.}

So, I just got my K850... loving it. I wanna know if there's a way to program a link or something into the phone to bring up AT&T's 3G services, like weather forecasting and sports video stuff.

Doesn't make any sense, I know.... pay extra to not have all that pre-packaged CRAP on your phone, and then want to get some of the stuff! LOL! Oh well, I'm just a nerd that wants to see the AT&T video services (3G) work.

Anybody know?

No problem. I should add that into a sticky.

Thanks for the guide. Everything worked out just right except for one thing. I can receive incoming MMS messages, however, I cannot send them. Seems weird to me. Any insight would be appreciated.

Posted by: prlaserbean

I posted this also on the other MMS settings thread. I Have a k810 and my settings stopped working. I was using the W810 settings and they worked fine till 2 days ago. I went to the cingular site and can only tried to manually set the settings but nothing!

Can anyone give me all the settings they have on their MMS working K810?

Posted by: dwbarger

whenever I try to go in and change my settings for internet and MMS I get a message stating the current profile is locked. I am using the new W580i pink on AT&T. (My daughters phone) We have been to SE site and tried many many times every way mentioned but the settings will not send so I figured we could do it manually but no luck because of this.
Thanks in advance.
Denny

Posted by: Baldilocks

You need to create a new profile. You cannot edit the pre-installed AT&T profile.

Posted by: prlaserbean

I did.. it's supposed to be "MEdia Net" right?

My settings:
Validity Period: Network Maximum
Read Report: Off
Delivery report: Off
Signature: No signature
Creation mode: Alert
Picture Scaling: Off
Auto Download: Always
Accept Messages: (all checked)
MMS profile: MEdia Net

MMS profile name: MEdia Net
Message Server: http://mmsc.cingular.com
internet profile: MEdia Net

what else could I have done wrong? These are the settings I've been using since I got the phone and suddenly, nothing! I messed with my phone for an hour last night and came up with nothing.

*edit* before I messed with the settings, when I would try to send myself a message, the only icon indicator to show that a message was being sent that came up was the yellow envelope with the arrow. After I messed with the settings a bit the icon that looks like a globe popped up but the pictures still won't send.

well, I reset all the settings and so I could have a fresh start when I entered the MMS settings..

I started messing with the phone some more and got deeper into the MMS profile.
I created MEdia Net..
Put in the settings I listed above and they didn't work. I then started messing in the Internet profile... and I experimented and to my surprise, I found that the SEMC WAP profile (I think thats what the phones default was) WORKED! Isn't that weird? Inside it says that it's using SEMC GPRS to connect.

I'm not sure what that is, but I'm glad it works lol.

Now we gotta get those pictures coming in bigger than my pinky finger's nail and I'm good.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Baldilocks

I just got a k850i. I'm trying to set up my MMS on AT&T and there is no 3gprs to select, only MEdia Net. It says 3G next to the signal level and have GSM and 3G select. Do I have to put in the 3gprs in manually, if so under Account type I can select PS data or CS data.

Well, if you can help me out that would be great.

does anyone have an updated version of this tutorial? It looks like the menus have changed for an unbranded w580i. I can't seem to get mine to work.

Visit ATT.com, go to wireless support and find settings for a phone that is similar to yours and use those settings.

Posted by: tom3m

"Any threads posted in the SE forum asking how to set up your SE phone with AT&T will be deleted without notice." BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SAME QUESTION BUT UNDER LEGACY ATT (Mmode)?

"Any threads posted in the SE forum asking how to set up your SE phone with AT&T will be deleted without notice". BUT THERE IS A WAY TO SET IT UP FOR ATT BUT HE LEGACY ONE (Mmode)?

Posted by: ckjnigel

Thanks very much for this -- I got my unlocked W580i with a PAYG GoPhone SIM to connect on Edge and was thrilled to see news.google.com . I entered no proxy settings simply because I couldn't find how to access them.
Since this thread is intended for newbies like me, I think the top post should be revised to include WAP@CINGULAREDGE.COM.
I couldn't figure out the format of my NYC-917 number for requesting the browser setings for the phone -- would it be 11 1 917... And, I wasn't sure whether I should request for Edge or for ATT -- which should it be (and, since I got web, would there be any advantage to using their settings?).

Posted by: keyrat42

Does anyone know the settings to use if you're a legacy ATT subscriber? I still have a blue ATT sim card from the pre-Cingular days and I can't get the settings I've seen here to work with my W810i. I can't get online or send/receive MMS.

Any ideas?

edit: I got it working. Here are the settings for legacy mMode on a w810i.

Go to menu --> messaging ---> settings ---> multimedia msg. ---> mms profile

create a new profile.

profile name: (whatever you want)
message server: 10.250.250.055
internet profile: (select new profile)

connect using: (new account)
give it whatever name you want. it'll ask if you want to use EDGE or GSM. Some phones may say GPRS or GSM. You want EDGE or GPRS, whatever your phone says.

Use Proxy: Yes

proxy address: 010.250.250.054

port number: 8080

username: (blank)
password: (blank)

---------------
the way the settings menu for all this is set up can be a bit confusing, but those are the settings and I've got it working.

Why? This is not illegal, or against company policy to post how to connect an unbranded phone onto the AT&T network. I have actually been on with customer support for an unbranded phone and the technicians helped to get all the features working(i.e.browser settings/messaging settings etc.) So explain to me why you would delete any posts regarding connecting the phones that are not branded by AT&T.

It may be called EDGE on your phone.

LOL. It's because THIS thread supposedly already gives the answer so no need for a new thread.

I’ve tried following the posted instructions to the letter, but had trouble locating some options. I list below exactly what I’ve done. I tried sending a small picture and got a message back, “Sending failed. Communication Error.”

I’ve not been able to send or receive pictures EVER. I have all the right stuff on my cellular account. This is a phone settings issue.

In SETTINGS / CONNECTIVITY / DATA COMM / DATA ACCOUNTS / NEW ACCOUNT (I had to create a new account. I named it mMode.) / EDIT…

APN: wap.cingular
UserName: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Login Request: off
IP Address: leave blank
DNS Address: leave blank
Authentication: Chap
Data Compression: off
Header Compression: off

In SETTINGS / CONNECTIVITY / DATA COMM /INTERNET SETTINGS / INTERNET PROFILES ... I selected mMode then MORE / SETTINGS and this is where I found

Connect Using: I did not have the option to select 3gprs so I selected mMode
Use Proxy: I selected yes
Proxy Address: I entered wireless.cingular.com
Port Number: I entered 80
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank

In SETTINGS / CONNECTIVITY / DATA COMM / STREAMING SETTINGS… I made these changes

Connect Using: I did not have the option to select 3gprs so I selected mMode
Use Proxy: I selected yes
Proxy Address: I entered wireless.cingular.com
Port Number: I entered 80

In MESSAGING / SETTINGS / PICTURE MESSAGE/ MMS PROFILE / EDIT / NEW PROFILE… I created a new profile name: mMode and made these changes

Message Server: http//mmsc.cingular.com
Internet Profile: mMode

I could not find where these options are located:

Then go into proxy settings and do this:
Proxy: On
Same for all servers: off
Proxy Servers: Multiple

Then go into proxy servers and do this:
Select HTTP then:

Please… can anyone help??

Edit: Thankfully I didn't do anything to mess up SMS this time!!

Posted by: ashmc84

I tried to follow the instructions but I must have did something wrong. I can now receive Picture messages but not send any... If anyone else knows where my error may be let me know. Thanks

K850i

Guys...I desperately need help, I've tried everything listed in the FAQ, had the settings sent to me, even had someone I know at AT&T try to work on getting this to work and it fails every time.

I can get normal text messaging to work but not picture texting or the Internet:

Here are my settings:

SE S500i
Connect using:
MEdia Net
Use Proxy:
Yes
Proxxy address:
wireless.cingular.com
Port Number:
80
Username:
[blank]
Password:
[blank]

When I try to access the web, it fails...

Picture Text Settings
MMS profile name:
MEdia Net
Message Server
http//mmsc.cingular.com
Internet profile
R2R WAP Profile

Worked first time, Worked excellent, Holy cow 3G is fast!~!~!1`1`1

Posted by: johdaxx

Could some of the problems be related to the missing colon in the text above?

http//mmsc.cingular.com

vs

http://mmsc.cingular.com

fwiw, the above MMS settings, colon inclusive worked fine for me...new k850i today. I'm getting web feeds, and sending and receiving mms's just fine.

My internet settings were the ones that SE sent from their site, look pretty similar too. Do you suppose it makes a difference to have the elipsis '...' in the ip address settings vs. just blank? That's the only difference I see...
