Apple Store won't sell 1.1.1 iPhones...

Hey,

Just wanted to let everyone know - I went into an Apple store today (Alderwood Mall in Lynwood, WA - near Seattle) and tried to buy 2 iPhones. I told the guy I wanted ones with weeks before 45 (showed him on a box where to look) - he seemed clueless and happy enough to check for me.

5 minutes later, he came out and said they were all "shelved" because "only unlockers want those phones", so his manager must have stopped him from bringing them out.

Just thought I'd let everyone know...

I went to ATT store today in Philadelphia, they said they have 50 8gigs in stock all 41 and 42 weeks. No stopping me from buying one (even though I got cold feet and didn't buy it and decided to try it some more.....and decided it's just not enough phone for me).

Alright, I guess we're gonna have to work out some kinda trade. Send me an 8GB Week 42 and I will send you the money and a bunch of Canadian bacon or something...

I guess some stores are tough but some are easy.
Some Canadian reported that the salesperson even gave him a free Apple T-shirt just because they drove so many miles down to the US to buy an iPhone, so YMMV.

It may depend on which store you go to.

Washington stores see a lot of Canadians come through and they know the phone's are going back to BC and Rogers. Stores away from the border don't have as much reason to be suspicious

Went to San Francisco store and they were all week 45s.. And then went to Burlingame store and bought a week 40 there today

I'm jealous, I've got two week 45s sitting here beside me, haven't even bothered to open the boxes yet. I just hope they're unlockable soon - one's a birthday present for my brother.

The Apple store in King of Prussia, PA, is very cool...I bluntly asked the saleswoman that I wanted the iPhones that I can unlock (just to see her reaction) --- and of course she looked at he as if I had antennaes on my head. Then, oddly enough she went to the back and came back with 2 that were released on week 41.

I asked if I could buy 2 more but she said the policy had changed and each customer may only buy 2 from the Apple store. However, you can buy 5 at a time from the Apple web site. Go figure!

If you bought 2 more tomorrow I bet you could sell them on here in a second...

Which store? Columbus or Cincy? I need to replace mine ASAP, and I need to know which store to go to!

So week 44 is still 1.1.1?

Also so what if you get one from 45 and up just restore the 1.1.1 firmware, download it and put that on. The Apple Genius guy showed it to me in the local store?
User/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates.

If there's something I am missing let me know please

This http://iphone.unlock.no/ may help also

It depends on where it was made. Apple STARTED shipping 1.1.2 somewhere around week 44 or so, but there are reports of week 44 or higher that came with 1.1.1.

Also, it appears that 1.1.2 "out of the box" can be downgraded to 1.1.1, but still can't be SIM unlocked due to the bootloader. They can be jailbroken, however.
