SMS IM on Pearl?

I have a blackberry pearl on the family plan with unlimited family sms text, pics, IM, but how can I do IM on this phone without getting a BB email plan? We won't be emailing, only SMS texting, so is there an IM (SMS) program that I can use?

Download and install via your PC. You can't do an OTA install without a BB data plan.
Some IM apps use SMS, some don't. Do your homework before downloading/buying.

I was told that you have to get a Blackberry Plan. I love my pearl just wish I could IM on it.

OK...I did some research and here it is. You could IM on your black berry pearl or curve, etc. You have to register your cell number with AIM, or MSN Messenger or Yahoo messenger. On MSN, when I'm offline or "appear offline", people can send IM's to my cell phone and I can reply. It's SMS IM and it works fine and you don't need a BB data plan!
