How is typing on the Touch compared to say a QWERTY button phone (Blackjack, Q)?

I currently have the Blackjack, and while most people criticize its QWERTY layout and buttons, I find it works well for me. Then again I haven't used any other QWERTY device before. I was wondering how does typing on the onscreen QWERTY keypad on the Touch feels. My fingers are small but it looks uncomfortable typing so close on a touch screen.

There is no tactile feel to it. If you type a lot using the keyboard, look elsewhere. I have a long history of Palm OS use, so I prefer the stylus and the touch was perfect for that.

the standard numeric keyad is just as easy to use as any other phone.

Alpha,

If it works well for you, you may want to stick with it. There are numerous disadvantages to on-screen typing. Namely:

- It's a software-based keyboard and therefore may not conform to your personal standard for typing.
- You lose screen real-estate because the software keyboard occupies quite a bit of space on the screen.
- You will always have to double check the word you're typing just to be certain that the right word was registered.
- As mentioned my raider, no tactile feedback ...

thanks,
dunny

Also the simple fact that you have an actual QWERTY keyboard. There is simply no substitute. After using my TyTN for 8 months, I hate having to switch to any of my T9 backups when I go to a club\lounge\out for the night, when it comes to writing.

Once again, this is a personal choice, but if I feel this way then tons of others will share my experience.

i feel the same way!

After using a physical keyboard i tried out the touch with the suretype keyboard and I did not like it at all. It wasn't bad but i just didn't like it at all. Personally if you like your current keyboard then stick with it, especially if you do a lot of texting and emailing.

from somebody who went from MDA keyboard to touch, it was a real pain in the *** at first, but after getting used to it and finding the right software keyboard for me (fsk and pcmkb), I'm so used to it, I forgot all about the nice old slideout on the MDA.
