Where to get Sony Ericsson Phones!?!?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Mojo_LA

Like many of you, I'm really interested in these phones but I'm not going to spend $500 without being able to get some hands-on time first. Most online retailers do not offer refunds, and at best you'll find a place that will take it back but only with a steep restocking fee.

So that means we have to find some phycial stores that have these phones!

I just called the Sony Store (again) and they don't have any info on getting these phones yet... however, they said they HAVE been getting lots of calls!

If you find someplace that has the phone, please list the name and location of the store so others can go check it out.

If anyone is in Vancouver, BC, here are a few stores that will probably have them

Cellworld
Burnaby, Near intersection of kingsway & joyce

Phonemore
Richmond, BC

dont remember exact address

Posted by: Baldilocks

To to OP. I live in Delaware, I am not aware of ANY places around here that sell unlocked phones. I'd probably have to travel to Baltimore, Philly or even NYC to even find one.
Sure would be nice though. If i DO run across one in the area, I will be SURE to post it.

In chicago, on devon in indian town.

Bombay electronics (they have a website)

I doubt they will let you open a box and play with it though. Maybe. Good thing though is you can barter with them.

Its just a small shop packed with goods like all the stores on that street.

There is another store that sells phones too on that street, forgot the name, some crazy indian name.

I'd like to know of any locations in Los Angeles as well.

What about Toronto? Anyone here been able to fool around with one before purchase? Any stores in Pmall have them in yet and would let you play around with one first?

Posted by: tiny103

Currently in HK for a shortperiod. Have seen and handled k850i, but only the ones with the green, no blue. On the same street that the Mong Gok market is.

Same here!

I have talked to the people at sony style in the international mall here im Tampa, Florida and they will be carrying the K850 from what they say. I hope they actually do get the phone but if they don't by next week im going to buy it somewhere else. If anyone knows of somewhere near Tampa maybe orlando or even Miami let me know.

Posted by: newtype2011

There is a store in the millenia mall (in Orlando, FL) that has the K850i, but it is way overpriced ($879.99).

CTI Miami has it for 602.99, they're in South Florida within the Ft. Lauderdale area. If their price was reasonable I'd drive there and check it out since I'm just a few minutes away. Here's the address:

CTI Miami

3891 Stirling RD. Suite 6W
FT. Lauderdale FL. 33312

Wasn't there some blurb about AT&T having these on their "inventory list"? If so, anymore info on that? It's a retail location that you could look it over, decide and then buy an unlocked one or go with AT&T...

I suspect after Xmas, but anyone REALLY know instead of so much speculation?

I've bought a bunch of phones from CTI. They have all their phones in a display case and will let you handle them and check it out.
They are near the Ft. Lauderdale airport in Hollywood.

I don't think it will be for a while. The phone just came out to the unlocked world. Testers need to get their hands on it for a bit then it needs to go through the ATT pewpware and branding factory.

Ok I have been searching the LA area for unlocked cell phone shops that might have these in stock... so far I haven't found a place that has them in-store for in-person inspection, but I have found a few interesting things.

It looks like this place is an online retailer, but their office is in Palos Verdes, pretty close to LA, and they have good prices on these phones:

http://www.cellswholesale.com/Sony-Ericsson,CL,8/

w910i is $479 and the k850i is $579

I'm trying to find out if they would let someone come in and test out the phone, but so far no answer. Still, if you want to gamble and just get the phone and see if you like it, they will take it back within 7 days for a 10% restocking fee! Not a bad deal.

This shop is a retail store that specializes in unlocked phones but they said these are special order only and they don't have them in-store:
http://www.spcwireless.com/

He said to call back monday for pricing, but from the looks of their site I am guessing it's pretty high.

This is a gsm store on Melrose that is closed today (normally they are opened on Saturday) so I'll try again next week:
http://www.shopwirelesswaves.com/

Still hunting...

Posted by: samven582

anywhere on the Long Island Ny where I can try these phones out??

Posted by: rambalu80

I bought mine from Decho Wireless (www.dechowireless.com) in Houston. The guy that runs the business and me met up at a Starbucks, I looked at the phone and I bought it from him.

Posted by: Mojo_LA

Ok I just talked to "Bobby" at Wireless Waves on Melrose and he says when UPS makes their delivery today he should have some 910s and 850s in stock. He doesn't have demo phones per se, but he is willing to let me handle the phone for a few minutes so I can be sure I'm happy with the feel, keypad, etc.

Wireless Waves
7404 Melrose Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90046
Tel: (323) 655-5005

Call first and be sure they have the phone! Tell them Mojo sent you, I let him know other people from the forum may be interested too..

Let me know if you find anywhere on the West Side of LA that has the K850 to play with. How about the Sony Style store at the Beverly Center? Anyone tried there?

I already posted a shop in LA where you can find the phone, just call first to make sure it's in stock.

As far as Sony stores, have you tried CALLING the one in the Beverly Center? Funny how so many people asking questions about CELL PHONES could get the answer themselves by making a call!

As of last week, Sony stores had no record of these phones in their computers. I'm sure they'll have them eventually, but who knows when.

Call regularly and ask!

Posted by: mdwsta4

got an exact address?
any of you guys gone over there yet and see what they're offering straight up? i'm not going to waste my time if they're asking $700 or something when i can get it for under $600 online.

cheers

You know this leads me to think that everyone on HoFo should pool resources so we can make a comprehensive list of where you can find unlocked phones in cities around the world. I found a good one here in LA and it's in this thread about 2 specific phones, but I bet other people from LA in other HoFo forums would like to know where they can get OTHER phones!

Maybe one of the mods can chime in and give their opinion. It would really be nice to have an offical list of actual brick-and-mortar stores we can go into and find GSM phones for sale.

Well, HowardForums rules say that you arent supposed to have a link to any commercial website in your posts and/or your signature unless they are a paying HoFo advertiser. They do not exactly specify anything about posting actual PHYSICAL stores and STREET addresses.

Read into that what you will....

....."Advertising/Spamming - Any form of advertising or soliciting members or commerical website linking (excluding signatures of current HowardForum advertisers) whether publicly posted (including signatures) or sent privately (including email or PM) is strictly prohibited. This also includes, but is not limited to advertising with the intent to 'help people', or to provide 'free' products or services (e.g. 'free unlocking' posts), or links containing a referral or affiliate ID. While the forum is free for you to use, it is costly and time consuming for us to run so spam makes it harder to fund the forums. If you wish to advertise please use our contact form first."......

Posted by: Mojo_LA

Well, like you said, it says nothing about actual stores.

I think it's a much better service for HoFo readers to know where they can actually go in their city to see phones in person. Besides, most of these places will be specialty shops and most likely the owners and salespeople will be phone fans - in other words, HoFo people!

This is more like brining people together :-)

there are actually about 5-6 shops in that area that sell unlocked gsm phones - i would suggest overseas electronics - www.welectronics.com - the guys in there are super cool and will let you play with the phones

better yet - if you bring cash, you can get some great deals - their "cash price" is always better (and you can haggle with them as well)

I just don't want to see getting in trouble for posting what they shouldn't be, that's all. Someone asked a question and I gave my opinion.

Posted by: Mojo_LA

Where were you asked a question about if you thought this thread was HoFo "legal?"

Everyone knows that message boards are NOT the place to spam for your favorite store... but this thread is quite clearly not about that, it's about people wanting to be able to see a phone in person before they spend a lot of cash.

There's a whole thread about unlocked phones at Best Buy, did you tell THEM they might be in violation too?

Seriously, if you want to be a mod, sign up. If you think a thread is in violation, tell a mod... but pointing the finger publicly accomplishes.... what?

This thread is about where you can find these phones in a retail store. Ask your question in the general k850i thread.

i live in orlando.. the only places i know that sell unlocked and imported phones are a couple wireless shops in downtown orlando (Viet Town), or the future gadget store in Millenia mall which sells imported phones at ridiculous prices!

I don't understand the reactions. He posted out the closest rule and pointed out a possible loophole that would allow you to do what you asked.

hey guys!

my fiance loves pink so i'd like to get her a sony ericsson w580i metro pink phone. i live in toronto, ontario, canada. where can i buy one of these phones??? who sells them? i saw it listed on ebay, but the guy is way overcharging for it. i wouldn't mind driving down to buffalo to pick up the phone if it's available at a cell phone store either!

thanks a lot!

Posted by: Navin50

hi-mobile or omega cell had them

check there

Posted by: MattPol

I am looking for a place that sells unlocked Sony Ericsson phones, but that will let me sign up for T-Mobile service contract in exchange for a discount on the phone. Anyone have a recommendation? Could either be online or NYC-area retail store.

Cheers,
Matt

Posted by: Baldilocks

Ok, besides checking out Howard Forums MarketPlace (which is a very good idea), I notice that there are a lot of "Where can I get this phone...", "Who has a good deal on this phone..." threads in the Main Forum.

In an effort to minimize the clutter, you guys can just post all of that here to help each other out.

Please keep HoFo rules in mind when posting. Do not solicit other people to your site to buy a phone and do not post phone for sale or trade in here by you.

Posted by: col127

i did look on the marketplace and no one was selling them. i wasn't sure where else to post this question.

It's ok, you're all good! Just put it here in the FAQ so maybe someone else who has a question later on might be able to find an answer.

Posted by: Sophist

There is a mobile phone store in Westwood Village that carries it and will let you play with it. I was there last night testing it out. They're asking $650.

I don't recall the exact name of the store, but it's located on Weyburn and Broxton, right across from a CPK and the movie theaters on the corner.

What?! 6 Sony ericssons for $400? I'm thinking you can get most (except for X1 and G900) for under $400 each.

Posted by: CreativeMind

No.. You misunderstood. Of course, I can't get all those phones for the total sum of $400 lol. I meant I'm looking for either the following. I am willing to spend to more than $400, depending on which phone is offered. Or, I am willing to trade my unbranded Sony Ericsson P990i for one of the phones previously mentioned.
