Will the iPhone be sold at Costco?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I saw last week that AT&T and Costco have started to sell AT&T phones in Costco warehouses. Does anyone know if the agreement will allow the sale of iPhones at Costco? Just curious, as I think it could result in a reduced price.

I doubt it. The agreement seems to be similar to agreements with Sam's Club, RadioShack and other stores. If so, then they probably aren't considered AT&T Corp stores for iPhone sales (only AT&T Corp Stores sell iPhones).

Not only that.. but Costco, walmart etc only sell Apple products marginally cheaper. Like 2-5 dollars cheaper usually. So even if they did it would be like 396.99..not really a steal.

Marginal, true. I got my 30gig iPod about a year ago for $239, when Apple and everyone else was selling it for $249, meaning I saved $10, not huge.

However, Costco is now offering a $50 instant rebate on the Apple TV, making Costo by far the least expensive place to get an Apple TV. So who knows, if they do end up selling the iPhone, maybe they'd have something similar in store for that.

Doubtful, at least for a while.

The reason that most places don't sell Apple products is because it's expensive to carry Apple products for merchandisers. So much of their money goes to Apple it's kind of not worth it unless you're a huge retailer. Given Costco is, I believe Apple and AT&T corp stores are the only ones authorized to sell the iPhone, at least for a while anyways. 3rd party ATT stores couldn't even get ahold of it, so I doubt Costco will, at least for a while anyways.

Thanks guys. I was considering an iPhone, but because of the lack of the following, I am unable to justify the cost:

No 3G data
No MMS support
Limited camera options
No support for recording video

If the price were somewhere between 300 and 350, or if they added 2 out of the three things I mentioned (obviously they can't add 3G, requires new hardware) then I'd probably bite.

I'll wait for the price to drop, for MMS to come on board, or for the new 3G version to come out, whenever that may be.

Just because Costco sells something from a company doesnt mean they will start selling every item that company has

That's why the title of the thread is "Will the iPhone be sold at Costco?". I was looking for someone who may have some insight into this.

I understand you, but you are inferring that either myself or someone else who posted in this thread is using the "they sell everything else from Apple" thinking. No one here said that. You answered a question that no one asked.

My comment was an answer ?

I am sorry for all this. I guess I can say that it's true for any product. If a particular retailer carries lots of products from a manufacturer (although I only see iPods and Apple TV at Costco), it does not guarantee you'll see other products on sale there. This applies for any product at any retailer.

I would eBay my iPhone and rebuy at Costco, they have a great return policy, far better than what AT&T is offering.

I don't believe anyone in this thread once implied that costco WILL sell an iPhone because it sells iPods. He was just asking what everyone thought.

Chill out. If you can't play nice, don't come play at all.

I think it used to be a limitless return policy. Last year they changed it to 90 days for most electronics.

Costco has changed their return policy because of abuse. On most electronics, including cell phones, there's only a 90 day return period.

Costco's Return Policy .
