Thinking About Getting An iPhone

Hello,

Im thinking about getting an iphone and have some email Questions

It seems as though since the 1.1.1 update the yahoo push is working better, can anyone inform me on their personal situation

I read from Boy Genius how to get the iphone to poll the towers evry 1,2,3 or any minutes. The article also said that the battery was not affected. Is anyone using this method?

Is there anyway to get PUSH email without yahoo?

How does iPhone alert you when u get a email? When the screen is off does it still make a noise? does it make a noise if the screen is on?

About Jailbreaking,
If i buy a iphone will it have 1.1.2 on it? or would they have updated them already? If it does come with 1.1.2 am i screwed? or do i just have to downgrade to 1.1.1. and simply then go to jailbreakme.com
can i get a link for downgrading
(I have an ipod touch and accidentally updated to 1.1.2 and all i did was download the 1.1.1 and hit ctrl restore in itunes and select 1.1.1..is it that easy for the iphone as well?)

I have EVDO right now....how bad is EDGE? I heard ATT has been updating their EDGE network. Any help is appreciated

boy genius said wha? How would checking email more often not affect the battery at all? That doesnt make sense.

And on edge speed, it can be pretty ******. If you're looking for speed, this isnt the device for you. If you're looking for quality, that's a different story. I actually posted an edge speed test on youtube ifyou wanna go check it out. Just type in soulweaponry and all my videos will pop up. Click on edge vs wifi and judge for yourself

It is functioning better, but I still prefer my Gmail account on IMAP now that it works just because I use my Gmail account more and I don't mind waiting for mail.

There's no way a phone doing this every 2-3 minutes would not affect battery life. It may not eat it up like there's no tomorrow, but your battery is definitely going to be affected, no matter what phone you are using.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so...as of yet anyways.

Yes, it makes a noise, and vibrates, if you choose it to do so. Mine always vibrates when I get an e-mail, but the screen does not light up. I like it this way. I know I have an e-mail, but it's still discrete. It does light up the screen if you receive a text message and shows you who it's from and a preview.

This I am not 100% sure on but I believe you can just downgrade from what I've read. The iPhone hacking forum would probably be better suited for this question. I myself have not hacked my iPhone as I have no need for it.

I don't have a problem with EDGE. It gets me e-mails in a timely manner, If i need to browse, it works rather well, and google maps works perfectly fine with it, as well as youtube, surprisingly. Depends on how picky you are i guess. most of the time i'm at school, i use a wifi hotspot and the only other time i am on edge is for email and for google maps, and for that, it works okay. and yes, att has supposedly been working on edge. i noticed an increase when they released the iphone, but i don't know if they have been updating it since then or not.

hope that helped a little, there were a lot of questions there! haha

you'd need a separate phone plan with the regular phone, then activate the iphone with an iphone data plan. Unless you don't plan on emailing, browsing or txting, I don't think it'll work.

There were a number of VERY LONG threads on this when the iphone was released, it can work, use the search function

interesting, so anyone know, i have 2 iphones activated, still eligible for upgrades with att obviously, so if i went out and got 2 phones and then sold them, that would be doable? i already have the iphones...i would just say i'm buying the 2 phones as backup phones.

I bought 3 BB Curves for a total of $67 on my FAN account just before buying my 2 iPhones. Selling the Curves should help out quite a bit on the cost of the iPhones
