P1i - A Couple of New Owner Questions...help!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey,
Alright, so I got a P1i recently, and love it. I've been using it for a couple of days, but there's still a couple stuff I want to figure out with this phone, so I'll list out the questions that I can think of right now, and might post back again later with any more questions that come to mind.

1) Is there any way to CLOSE an application? I know I can use the back button, but that doesn't really close it, since it still shows as open in the task manager. I know I can also end it using the Task Manager, but isn't there like an option to end a program or an app directly?

2) Alarms: Is it possible to have more than 3 alarms? When I go to Time, I only have the option of setting 3 alarms. On my K810i, I used to have the option to set 5, and it was really useful. Just wondering if this is possible on the P1i.

3) Is there any way that I can set the internet connection options to "always ask"...so like when I try to connect to the internet, it doesn't automatically use my gprs. I'd only like to use the internet when I have wifi available, so I normally turn on my wifi, connect, then use the internet...but sometimes I'm afraid that it might be charging my gprs, so I've deleted my gprs settings off the phone. I'm on prepaid, so using gprs costs me an arm and a leg lol.

4) Is there a way to go back/forward when writing text? I know it is possible to just take out the stylus and click wherever you want to go to in the text, but I don't usually use the stylus when writing text messages or notes, so I'd like to be able to just scroll back a couple of letters to just delete or add a character if I made a typo...without having to delete everything back until the mistake. Something like the joystick on joystick phones do, where you can just go back and forward through the message to get to a specific point.

5) Is there any way to sync up my hotmail e-mail with the p1i? I'd like to connect to my inbox and retrieve my emails whenever I'm in a hotspot...I don't mind manually going somewhere and updating...but if there's auto push whenever in a hotspot...that would be even better. I'd also like to sync my rogers e-mail address too.

6) Can you use video ringtones? I used mp4 format on my other phones...like on the K800/K810i, etc...

7) Any apps/themes/games or anything that people out there recommend for the P1i? I'd like to make the most out of it. Free is preferred, but if there are great apps that cost a bit, I'm still open to suggestions!

Thanks, and any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry, I cannot answer much, as I had the phone for 2 days:
2) Try using the calendar
4) Yes, you can use your stylus to point at any letter to go back, don't know if there's another way.
5) push to e-mail, don't know if it cost money though.
6) I wish there was one, but from the options it doens't look good
7) Animated gifs does not work, it would appear but not move.

Just to add to LCH

1) Nope, but why would you need to? There's plenty of memory to keep up...
2) I was disappointed about that as well... Calendar is your best bet, or an alarm program. I use Handy Clock, but it costs money...
4) The * and # buttons have left and right arrows,,,

Hey,
Thanks for the reply guys. About the * and # buttons, I fiigured that out a few hours after I posted this...makes life soooo much easier. hehe...but yea, guess I don't need to close apps, since this thing is amazing at multitasking, no matter how much stuff I've got open.
I'll take a look at the calender for alarms, and I'll look into Handy Clock too...since I really think I'd need more than just 3 alarms.

Regarding push to email, I don't think it should cost anything if theres a way to set it so that when you're connected via wifi, it pushes. But yeah, still not sure.

So just need answers for 3, 5, 6, 7 now lol.

Thanks!

Hey guys, have you realized that while "writing" sms for example:
Writing on top 1/3 of screen would recognize as numbers and symbols
writing on middle 1/3 of screen would recognize letter as upper case
writing on bottom 1/3 of screen would recognize letter as lower case.
Anyone also have this?

Haha, yeah, that's why you have the black triangle to divide the screen in the middle...

As for the OP's questions, 3 - don't think so (maybe call your provider and ask to disable gprs?), 5 - you might need a 3rd party application for it, 6 - never tried to, but put a file you used on the K800 and try it, 7 - Swiss Manager UIQ3! and maybe a divx player if you want to watch movies on the phone...

Heh, yeah, I found out about the handwriting thing just recently...at first I didn't know why it would never recognize what I was trying to input, but then after realizing the triangle meant something, handwriting actually works quite well. However, I still prefer using the keyboard...although the handwriting is nice to show-off

Anyways, about your answers...
3 - I don't really want to disable gprs, since I may use it sometimes, but very rarely. So yeah, just wondering if anyone has a definite answer...
5 - I'll look into it, thanks...but if anyone knows of such an app, or if it's possible from the stock apps, then please let me know...
6 - I've tried that, but when I go to Sounds and Alerts and choose ringtones, it seems to only give me the option of selecting music files, whereas the k800/k810 let me first choose if I want to use a ringtone, or a video, then gave me my directory to browse for the file...I really loved video ringtones, but I guess its not the end of the world. I think there might even be an app out there, so I'll keep looking. But if anyone knows how...let me know...
7 - Thanks! I'll get those apps asap lol....

Thanks again...any more suggestions anyone?

I'm really loving this phone. I also purchased an n95 a day or so within the same time I purchased the P1i, but I still have yet to use the N95 properly, since I'm really getting used to the P1i, and love it!

Hi, I've recently tried using the weekdays setting on the alarm. It was working fine last week, but then on monday I slept in becuase the alarm didn't go off. Getting to work wasn't pretty!!! I had to uncheck it then checked it again, and that worked...but I have yet to have it happen again till the coming monday! anyone else experience this?

1) in task manager go and END the program
2) 3rd party software
3) u know the answer to this one from the other thread, just create a new profile for each program and set that program to use that specific one
4) use the STAR and POUND button
5) set the specific time the email will check (time intervals)

i know exactly what you mean. for some reason it sometimes doesn't alarm. i find it happens when i mark the alarm too soon to monday, like if i mark it 5 hrs before. so what i do to get around this is to set a secondary alarm, on set to daily and that usually does the job, although it only failed once.

well...i can't have the alarm function fail on me! I use my cell alarms for alot of things!!! Hope someone can suggest a good clock/alarm app (free please) that we can use.
