Blackberry curve sim/samsung phone

I have a blackberry curve that is provided by my company. They will not generally pay for voice so I would like to add my own existing voice plan to the BB. The carriers are the same (AT&T/Cingular) but tech support says I can't do it. I'm not attempting anything illegal, just looking to carry only one device.
Anyone have any suggestions?
