Is mail working for everyone else?

because it isn't for me. Ive had my gmail set up perfectly ever since I got my iPhone months and months and months ago. Working perfect until I noticed it hadn't retrieved any of my mail late Monday. I'd open mail so I could do it manually but all it said was "connecting... Connecting..."

I havent done anything or changed any settings in mail when this happened. What can I do?

Mine syncs but it hasn't been automatically downloading messages from Yahoo for some time now.

And I have it turned on to do this in the prefs.

Buggy.

What I hate most about this mail application is the fact it even downloads mail in the middle of the night. I wish I could set the hours for automatic sync.

I'm getting the same thing here in Seattle. I too have a Gmail account using imap and I can download my messages via wifi, but when I turn off the wifi and use Edge, I get the same problem. I'll try restoring my phone tonight and see what happens.

Im at a safeway wifi right now checking my mail. That's right. Checking my mail! Its actually working when I use wifi, but when I turn wifi off, it goes back to "connecting...connecting" just trying and failing to connect.

My edge connection is working just fine. Ive been using edge all day. But I can't check mail over edge. Why is that?

Not for me either! I've not changed any settings and yesterday my iPhone stopped syncing mail via IMAP. It works fine with wifi, so the account settings are OK. BTW - I'm in the Seattle area and my server is on Comcastg and have my own server (which has been working for years) and the iPhone has been working since July (through all of the versions up to 1.1.2). I can access my server via Safari / HTTPS so the some IP stuff is working.

Curious - all those of you complaining. Is anyone "not unlocked in any way" or sim unlocked?

Mine is a stock 1.1.2 iPhone. Mail's working fine for me. Three IMAP accounts, all able to check and retrieve mail.

By no means am I complaining, my stock iphone has been working wonderfully up until yesterday afternoon. All I'm wondering is if this is happening to anyone else out there.

I'm in the Tacoma area myself right by Seattle and still having the same problems.

To answer the other poster, my phone is locked to AT&T but jailbroken. I havent changed any of my settings prior to having these problems though so WTF? Anybody have a theory on this? I'm running 1.0.2

I wasn't calling you complainers.... but technically if you are reporting that you can't check mail over edge - its still a "complaint". It wasn't an attack. I was asking to figure out if it could possibly be on purpose. Now that I know virgin phones are having the issue, we can get that assumption out of the way.

Okay, so maybe its a network problem at AT&T, perhaps in the Seattle/Tacoma area from the few responses above. I noticed the busy "ring" is still going around at the top of the phone long after the mail app has given up. To stop this from draining my battery I push and hold the home button to reset the app. I'm going to have to see if a call to AT&T does the trick to get this fixed, although I'm not very hopeful.

I think I might have figured it out. I'm now at home, and used the Mail app to download my new messages using edge. So it seems to depend on which cell tower your phone is connected to at the time. When I'm at work, I was having this problem.

My iPhone is completely stock (ie, no jailbreak, SIM unlock, etc.). It hasn't worked (IMAP over EDGE) in any of my travels on the Eastside of Seattle (Woodinville, Redmond, and Bellevue).

Have you tried in other areas, like in Seattle, Queen Anne, Renton, Burien? I work at the airport and my mail doesn't work there.

ive been all over tacoma today. I mustve passed at least a few cell towers and I still couldn't check my mail via edge. Has anybody contacted AT&T?

Well, I'm back at work today and during my commute between Seattle and SeaTac, I was continually refreshing my mail and it was working. However when I got to work, the refreshing stopped. So now my assumption is the software that is installed at the cell tower your phone is connected to.
