On 1.1.1 (what I have), it's: username: root password: alpine I seem to recall 1.0.2 and 1.1.2 might have different passwords for SSH, but I could be wrong on that. Should specify it in the instructions. |

You should still be able to Jailbreak and activate it though, right? Now, install BSD and SSH - Find the old anySIM (1.02), download and install it (WinSCP) Run anySIM, and you should get your old IMEI back. However, at this point you are anySIM unlocked, so you have to virginize again - after you virginize this time, your IMEI should stick. L |

Secondly, a few days ago, I posted a guide called 'Milestone Methods to Upgrade to 1.1.2'. It was lengthy, but detailed and I have recieved some good feedback on it. However, a few users have come across some problems, particularly when trying to jailbreak their 1.1.1 phones. This got me thinking, and eventually trying different things to duplicate and resolve the issues that they are having... ...And eventually, the result is *THIS* guide, which should be much easier to follow and understand. The steps have changed, but I'll try to use the same milestone-based format of my previous post. So, if you're stuck somewhere along the road to 1.1.2, I REALLY hope this will solve your problem. Again, this will not work for brand new 1.1.2 phones w/ the new bootloader, so those readers beware! *** BNIB – Brand New In Box ![]() (HOME) button – The round button on the front of your iPhone [SLEEP] button – The long button along the top of your iPhone DFU Mode - You don't need to know what it stands for; you just need to know how to get there. Hold down the [SLEEP] and (HOME) button until your iPhone disconnects from your computer. I know, some people say "10 seconds" or whatever, but the BEST way to do this is to turn on your speakers and listen for the device to disconnect from the USB interface. When you hear this, let go of the [SLEEP] button, but KEEP ON HOLDING the (HOME) button until you hear the device connect again. ** Please note that while in DFU mode, you SHOULD NOT see anything on your screen. If you see a yellow triangle (1.0.2), an iPod cable (1.1.1) or a picture of your mom, you ARE NOT in DFU mode. Jailbreak – Alters the iPhone’s file system to allow writing and modifying data in specific areas. In turn, this allows 3rd party applications to be installed. Unlock – Let’s a SIM other than AT&T operate as a cellular device in any given GSM provider. Note that when you’re at the “slide to unlock” screen on your iPhone, which is not the same ‘unlock’. Activation – Pairs the SIM card with the phone, and for all practical purposes lets the user access the springboard (home screen) Firmware – This is the OS of the iPhone. Current popular versions are 1.0.2, 1.1.1, and 1.1.2 Baseband – The component of the iPhone that handles all the communication aspects of the the iPhone * Upgrading / Downgrading - When upgrading your firmware, the baseband upgrades alongside the firmware. If you are at 1.1.1 with its corresponding baseband 4.01 and you upgrade to 1.1.2, you will also upgrade your baseband to 4.02. ** Unlike upgrading, when you DOWNGRADE firmware, the baseband does NOT tag along. Instead, the baseband will stay the newest version. If you downgrade to 1.0.2 from 1.1.2 using DFU mode, you will still have the 1.1.2 baseband on your phone. This is not a bad thing. It just needs the user to BE AWARE OF THIS FACT, as it is also quite important to be comfortable with this idea. As mentioned above, each firmware revision has its own corresponding baseband: 1.0.2 -> 3.14 1.1.1 -> 4.01 1.1.2 -> 4.02 Please note that it is possible and essential that you understand that you can have firmware 1.0.2 with baseband 4.02 on your phone by merely restoring from 1.1.2 to 1.0.2. Virginizing – returning the phone to 1.0.2 with baseband 3.14. This is done via scripts, and there are many out there – some require minimal user input while other are more involved. I am mentioning this only because some people have this misconception that downgrading the FW is the same as virginizing, which is not the case. When someone says “I virginized it”, it means (for all practical purposes of this guide) they downgraded the firmware AND they downgraded the baseband. *** Files - You'll need these files in this guide; nothing more, nothing less: Files: You’ll need these files, nothing more, nothing less... 1) 1.0.2 firmware http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...28_Restore.ipsw 2) AppTappInstaller (Windows EXE file that installs AppTapp on 1.0.2 iPhones) http://www.nullriver.com/~adam/AppTappInstaller.exe 3) wiNstaller (Tool to jailbreak, unlock and install applications on 1.0.2 iPhones) http://freeouriphones.com/wiNstaller.zip 4) AnySIM 1.2.1u (SIM unlocking tool to use with 4.02 Baseband) http://iphone-elite.googlecode.com/...nySIM1.2.1u.zip 5) WinSCP (Windows SSH Client) http://winscp.net/download/winscp405setup.exe 6) Jailbreak Package http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip You should also be running iTunes 7.5 *** Now that we have the formalities over and done with, let’s move on to preparing the phone for its upgrade to 1.1.2. I am using this concept of milestones to emphasize the importance of WHY we are doing things. My desired result is not only an unlocked iPhone at 1.1.2, but also your understanding of why you are at where you are at any given point in time. So, without any further ado, here is my 'Lean and Mean Milestone Methods to 1.1.2' *** Milestones:
** If you've had a look at my previous guide, this is a much shorter list of target criteria than before. Anyhow, here are the steps to get to the first milestone: [MILESTONE 1] To unlock 4.02 Baseband, we need to get it on the phone. This milestone focuses on nothing more than to get your phone to a clean state with the 4.02 baseband. This milestone will also get EVER SINGLE READER to the EXACT SAME PLACE on their phone.
[MILESTONE 1 COMPLETE] *** [MILESTONE 2] Milestone 2 requires some work. It describes your phone as being Activated, Jailbroken and unlocked with the 4.02 baseband. Here is where we differ a bit from the previous guide: We will also prep for an update to 1.1.2 while in 1.0.2. a) DFU (refer to definitions above) and connect the iPhone to iTunes. b) Restore using [SHIFT] key + ‘Restore’ and select the previously downloaded 1.02 firmware. You WILL receive an error 1013 after the restore – this is perfectly normal. Now, DFU and restore AGAIN (on every phone I’ve done, it’s taken me 2 restores to get the desired effect) c) Use AppTappInstaller.exe to kick your phone out of restore mode d) If iTunes is not running, start it up and then use wiNstaller and [ACTIVATE] the phone. e) Use AppTappInsatller.exe again to install AppTapp Installer f) Update Installer g) Exit Installer, Connect to WiFi and set Autolock to [NEVER] h) Install ‘Community Services’, ‘BSD Subsystem’ and ‘OpenSSH’ (NOTE: These are installed ON YOUR iPHONE, and not in Windows. Community Services, which is located in the 'Sources' category, just let's you 'see' OpenSSH, BSD Subsystem is a prerequisite for OpenSSH, and OpenSSH itself is a secure FTP server that lets you copy files between your iPhone and your PC). Both OpenSSH and BSD are located in the 'System' category. i) Run WinSCP (You downloaded this earlier) and connect to your iPhone’s IP address (Either find it on your iPhone interface through SETTINGS->WIFI->(blue arrow on the right) or, go to your local router interface and find your iphone via it's MAC address - if you have no idea what I just said, use the first method! )j) Unzip the AnySIM 1.2.1u archive file onto your desktop, and name the folder that it creates to 'anySIM.app'. Drag the folder into the /Applications folder on your iPhone using winSCP. Drill into the anySIM.app folder and select all the files. Right-Click and select ‘Properties’ Change the permissions on the file (top right hand corner in the pop-up window) to enable ‘execution’, or simply type in 0755 in the box below the checkboxes) k) Run AnySIM by tapping on the icon, and sliding the bar across the screen. l) Go back into Installer, and look for the "Tweaks 1.1.1" Category. Inside, you will find Oktoprep. Install Oktoprep and exit Installer. [MILESTONE 2 COMPLETE] *** [MILESTONE 3] The big difference here compared to other upgrade guides (and it is big, as I've just saved you at least 20 - 30 minutes), is that you will not touch FW 1.1.1 at all. So far we have: 1) Unlocked the baseband - CHECK! 2) Prepared for upgrade - CHECK! So, the last step is to upgrade to 1.1.2 to jailbreak and activate that mofo! a) Upgrade to firmware 1.1.2 using iTunes. DO NOT use the ‘Restore’, as it will undo the Oktoprep, and you’ll basically have to start over. b) Run the Jailbreak package software (In windows, just double-click the batch file). You do not need to install SSH, as you can install it manually via installer if you need it later. Please note that you’ll need Java runtime (http://www.java.com) for this jailbreak to work. After the phone reboots, it will automatically reboot again. You should be able to access your springboard along with the Installer application. Congrats, you are now the owner of the same iPhone you had before, but with newer software!!!! [MILESTONE 3 COMPLETE] *** I hope this helps out the individuals who are stuck trying to get jailbreakme.com to work (I'm sure it will, since we don't even touch 1.1.1 here), and I hope it also let's 1.0.2 users who are hesitant to upgrade make a better decision, as the process is no longer dependant on jumping between 3 different firmware revisions. Thanks for you patients guys, and I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry for typing so much...REALLY! Best, Larry |

| ERROR (1013) - Cannot restore baseband to 3.14. This happens when you are downgrading your firmware from 1.1.2 to 1.0.2. Like I mentioned in the guide, the baseband will not follow the firmware when downgrading, so you get this error. It is normal and essential that you get this error in order for you to continue. |
