(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: jz687

Hey, I keep trying to restore my never before unlocked (but jailbroken/activated) 1.1.1 iphone with the 1.1.1 firmware in itunes, but it always fails (error 1604)
i tried restarting my mac, switching usb ports....everything reccomened....any other ideas?

Posted by: jz687

Please I need help!!!

Now Im stuck in the endless reboot!!! I can still get it into recovery mode when i attach it the computer, but otherwise, its in endless reboot....Please Where do I go from here!!! It wont let me restore

Posted by: jz687

Please....ANYONE...im desperate

Posted by: Lestat_d

restore to 1.0.2 and virginize?

Posted by: jz687

tried...wont let me restore to 1.0.2

Posted by: Drakkhen

What do you mean "Won't let you restore??"

You need to be more specific with what you see - nobody here can read your mind and nobody can see what you see. Every error message means something, what you see on the iPhone screen means something.

I'm sure your phone is fine, and there are people on here that can help you - don't panic.

isn't this like the 3rd post you did about this issue?? you're all over the place. I don't mind helping, and I'm sure others don't either, but it gets confusing trying to help someone on 3 different posts that are regarding the same problem

Posted by: jz687

Drakkhen: I wrote down the error number in the first post in this thread... error 1604 and i wrote that i tried all the solution like restarting the mac, changing usb ports/...nothing worked!!

Posted by: Drakkhen

I'm not sure what to do if you are using a mac - are you sure you are DFU'ing correctly?

Posted by: jz687

What?! DFUing?

Im stuck in endless reboot or recovery mode
I cant do anything but restore in itunes, which it wont let me do. Please doesnt anyone know what to do....I tried connecting it to independence, but nothing....
Please someone....what should i do

Posted by: jz687

So, heres what it looks like....Im desperate here and if no one here can help me, I dont know what to do!....

iPhones History:
OTB 1.0.2: jailbroken/activated then deactivated and returned to jail by independence (not unnlocked)
Restored to 1.1.1, (upgrade would have given me 1.1.2, which i dont want, but would now be happy with)
Accessed Jailbreakmenow.com on 1.1.1 - Jailbroken/activated. Still never unlocked.

I had the iphone in recovery mode and attached to the computer. I launched independence and then while it was connecting to the iphone, the little twirly circle was twirling at the bottom of the iphone screen with the grey apple then the twirl stopped, the iphone crashed (there was a little line of white on the screen as it crashed) and then it did that over and over again until i got it back in recovery mode (only was able to get into recovery mode when attached to the computer).
Once I got it back in recovery mode, I tried to restore, but got "error 1604" (never gets past "preparing iphone for restore")

I beg you, please help me.

Posted by: Lestat_d

Launch itunes
Plug the phone in
push and hold both home and sleep buttons until prompted to restore, do not let go of either button until prompted to restore.
option-click restore in itunes and select 1.0.2 fw
virginize

If you want, you can send you phone to me and I'll have a look at it...

Lestat: I tried that. got an error right away i think it was error (-1)
Drakkhen: Thanks, but I really dont feel comfortable sending my iphone away

Leave iTunes open and push and hold both home and sleep on iPhone while docked, do not let go of either button, give it a minute to kick into restore...

all of this stuff but it doesn't work for me. When I try to restore it to 1.0.2 it shows me error (1). Is there anything else that I can do? I can restore it to 1.1.2, and when I do it's completely locked again, and I can't do anything with it.

So can you please at least try to help me?

Thanks,
Mick

Can you describe the exact process that you are using to restore to 1.0.2? What do you see on your iPhone screen before you start the restore?

Posted by: mick1980

I restored it to 1.0.2 somehow following this guide: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1279040

But when I restored it to 1.0.2, I am stuck on the activation page. I can't jailbreak it with apptapinstaller. I ran it, and everything was fine, but what now? I am still on the activation page. It says: "Incorrect Sim Insert an unlocked and valid sim to activate iPhone"! I don't know how to copy that any sim neither? What program should I use?

Thanks,
Mick

Posted by: Drakkhen

Ok -

Download wiNstaller - it should be able to activate your SIM. After that, you need to run AppTappInstaller.exe to install the Installer application. Connect to your wifi and write down the IP address that the phone gets from your access point. Run installer and update to the latest version. After that, install the following:

Once those 3 are installed, Download and install WinSCP (On your computer, not the iPhone)

The idea is, that your iphone is an FTP server, and your computer is the client. Connect to your iPhone's IP address (username: root, password: dottie), and you should be able to see your phone's file system.

Let's see if you can get this far first :

Hope this helps!

ok i opened a new thread for this issue before reading this thread but im having a similar issue. exact scenario:

was running 1.0.2 jailbroken. upgraded to 1.1.1 with no issue. ran the prep app to install 1.1.2 and when i did the update, my phone was locked. i went to restore back to 1.1.1 but couldnt get the phone to lock onto my at&t signal. when i went to restore it to 1.0.2 i get error 1604. now no matter what version i try restoring to i get error 1604. doesnt matter how i try restoing it and which method i sue i cant do it. thoughts?

Posted by: Drakkhen

You guys ALL are missing *THE* crucial step. I'm going to list the facts here, and afterwards, I'll tell you the step. It's CRITICAL all of you understand this. If not, we're going to get more new threads about the same thing.

From what you've written, It seems that you are not upgrading to 1.1.2 first to get the baseband on your phone.

A lot of people seem to be doing this with the mind set that they can install and run AnySIM after they've upgraded to 1.1.2 - This is very far from the case.

L.

Posted by: waterhurley

im not lokoing to run anySIM on my phone just simply getting it to boot into the psringboard again and so far i cant even do that

Posted by: mick1980

This is the message I get when I try to activate (jailbrake, reactivate,...) in wiNstaller:

Looking for restore files
Ramdisk: 009-7698-4.dmg
Kernelcache: kernelcache.release.s5l8900xrb
This version of iTunesMobileDevice.dll is not supported
Error initializing communications with iPhone.

I read that "Read me" file, and installed older version of iTunes (7.3 and 7.4), but is still doesn't work I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO TRY

What else would you recommend?

Thanks again,
Miljan

Posted by: Drakkhen

http://rapidshare.com/files/7085154...Device.zip.html

Download the file here - replace what is in this file and stick it into your wiNstaller directory (it will overwrite the other dll file).

Run wiNstaller again, and click on Activate while iTunes is running.

It works. I installed BSD and SSH, and what should I do next?

Mick

Posted by: Drakkhen

Go into Installer, and add the following as a source:

http://markmon.mine.nu:90/iphone/repo/repo.plist

Refresh your sources, and you should get a few new things to install - Go into the "unlock that iphone" category and install AnySIM 1.2

Posted by: mick1980

I did that, and anysim showed that the phone has been successfully unlocked, BUT it still shows "Incorect SIM - This iPhone must be used with an approved SIM" Same as before I used any SIM.

Do you have any ideas what can I do next.

I really really appreciate you help! Thank you very much!

What firmware are you at? Was your SIM card in there when you were unlocking?

L.

Posted by: mick1980

I downgraded to 1.0.2 from 1.1.2. My modem firmware is 04.02.13_G

Posted by: mick1980

and yes, my SIM card was in the phone (and still is)

Posted by: Lestat_d

Just to make sure -- when you go into settings, general, about -- your IMEI doesn't start with 0049 indicating a brick right?

Posted by: mick1980

it does is that really bad?

Posted by: Lestat_d

Its recoverable. One way., but I will defer to the other experts at this point...that guide is a bit dated.

Dude that's horrible - your phone bricked before you even started... :\
There's a long process ahead of you, my friend...

First thing to do is get your IMEI fixed.

What guide were you using to do this? It should have told you to virginize before you started it. You should also have mentioned to us that you're starting with a 1.02 phone that was unlocked with the old AnySIM - It would've saved you a LOT of time...

Good luck..

L.

Posted by: ms_selena

I also got the SAME error!

Posted by: mick1980

@Lestat_d I tried following that guide but I can't get into "proper restore mode" (according to the guide there shouldn't be a picture of a cable and an itunes icon). Do u guys have any ideas how can I fix this, or can you give me any other link, or something,...

Btw, right now my iPhone has a 1.1.1 firmware on it, and its in restore mode (with a picture of cable and itunes icon). Its running 04_02_13_G modem firmware.

Thanks,
Mick

On this guide, there is a section talking about DFU mode. Read it and understand it. Make sure your speakers on, and start with the phone ON

Posted by: mick1980

So should I just follow this guide (update to 1.1.2 again, and start from there)?

Posted by: MadMusic34

im having the same problem as u Mick,

i cant downgrade my iphone to make it anything below 1.1.2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ive tried everything...i wish i didnt upgrade to 1.1.2.

Posted by: kevinv710

Remove ur iTune, and download the fresh one V7.5 from Apple website, reinstalled it into your computer again, restart ur computer, now you can downgrade it, with error 1604 to FW1.1.1 or 1015 to FW 1.0.2, but the error messages are different just the same error number(1604/1015). After downgrade with DUF status do it again with regular downgrade, that mean you did it twice, it is still in "Restore Mode" after these thing but it will allowed you to use Apptapp or iBrickr to brings the phone back to boot the phone mode , meaning with the Global screen and slide to emergency call, to do jailbreakme.com to install OKtoRep file.

Posted by: ms_selena

I had error 1604 previously.
I'm currently in DFU mode...showing a black screen...now what?
I want to bring it back to 1.1.1 and jailbreak/unlock so I can use on Rogers and leave it there...never again will i EVER upgrade this phone! Too much of a headache when you screw things up like what i did.

Dude, I already posted what you have to do - (Post #35)

You need to get your IMEI back before you follow the guide, or you're going to end up with a bricked phone again.

Fix your IMEI first.

I GOT IT! I unlocked it again!!!! I am now using firmware 1.0.2 and modem firmware 03.14.08_G!!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!

Posted by: mick1980

I got it different way, it was much faster. But still, thanks a lot.

Posted by: ms_selena

Well post the faster way please! I'm still stuck as f*ck!
I'm now getting error 2003 in itunes! Trying to downgrade from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1
I'm in desperate need of some easier instructions please!

Perhaps at this point your best approach is to set up a real-time session with geek, drakkhen or macGeek to walk you through it. A small donation via payPal is a nice gesture IMHO. Just a thought...based on the extensive challenges you are having...

Posted by: mick1980

First downgrade to 1.0.2, but don't just click restore button in iTunes, restore it using DFU mode. Then jailbreak and activate it using wiNstaller.

Write again when you do this and I will give you further instructions. Everything should be very simple!

Mick
