I just got a new Imac and its my first apple computer. I've been trying to download the 1.1 firmware to jailbreak my 1.2 phone. Everytime i download it, it will not save it as a zipfile like it should, it saves it as a folder, how do i make it save as a zip and not a folder?

you mean an .ipsw file right?

When you download the firmware file in Safari, it unzips the file so what you just need to do is remove the .zip from the file extension so that it's just an .ipsw file not .ipsw.zip

Well, let me try and explain better. It downloads itself as a correct filename but with a .zip on the end of it. In theory i should just be able to go in and delete the .zip on the end to have my ipsw file. BUT, after it downloads and it prompts me that this file might contain and exectuable file, i click ok then it saves as a folder. I cannot rename the folder with .ipsw, Well, I can, but it does not work,

On my Mac Book Pro it downloads to the desktop. Just click the zip itself It should open there.

Okay, you should be able to change the extension but anyways, easiest thing to do is download Firefox for Mac and download the Firmware file through that browser; you'll get the actual firmware file, not an unzipped file
