So when I arrived on Chichijima Island, the largest of the Bonin Islands 1000km south of Tokyo, I was suprised to see that my BlackBerry 8707g was not working....it had worked everywhere else I had been in Japan pretty well. So i took my sim card out of the Bberry, and into the CU500 just screwing around, and turns out that I am able to roam on the NTTDoCoMo network. So i guess "mainland" Japan and this island are using different 3G UMTS frequencies. Just thought it was interesting/cool/informative!

AFAIK, Japan started using 850mhz 3G in some of their areas
