Nokia 6555 & Wired Headset Problem?

I'm trying to connect a 6555 and a standard Nokia 2.5mm wired earbud.

It fits perfectly, but the volume through the earbud is extremely quiet, even with volume turned up all the way.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a 3mm earbud to test through the adapter.

Is this a known issue? Is there a setting to fix this that I haven't found?

Edit: I tried a different, new 6555 and a different 2.5mm Nokia earbud and had the same problem. Is a different type of earbud needed for this Nokia?
