Disabling internet capabilities on Motorola Q Black to prevent excessive data charges

Does anyone know how to prevent the Moto Q from being able to connect to the internet? Verizon has a system where you pay by the kilobyte if you don't have a data package. Furthermore, you cannot disable the per minute part unless you want to cripple your messaging abilities. The problem is if Internet Explorer accidentally initializes you will be charged a LOT of money if it starts doing stuff (I know from experience).

My Q runs Windows Mobile 5.0, which I think they all do. I have tried using Resco to rename/delete parts of IE to make it inoperable, but that does not work because the program is stored in ROM. I have also tried the password hack from the Moto Q Hacks sticky, but that does not stop it because you can put anything in for a password you want and it will accept it. I was thinking there must be something that can be changed in the registry so that it will just not find any pages if it does start. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I did the pay as you go and never had a problem. But I can offer some advice:

1. Set your homepage to a local file (file://mylist.txt) or something like this
2. Don't use the VZW homescreen - it has links to internet locations

If you change homescreens, I don't know how IE can accidentally launch, but to each his own.

can you go into Settings/Connections and delete the data connection info?

Another queston concerning the Home Screen solution.. Is there a way to remove the News and Get Applications links? I really like how the Verizon Screen is formatted with text messages, voicemails, and calendar dates as the primary focus, along with the sound/profile at the bottom. Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.

You need to learn a bit about editing XML, but it is not that hard. Find some of the home screen tutorials, read up, save the VZW home.xml file to your PC and you can delete that specific plugin, or even change the shortcuts to point to programs you use a lot. If you have ever done any HTML, then this stuff is a breeze, if not, let me know and I may be able to help out.

I am not sure where the tutorials are on HoFo, but Qusers has lots of good stuff:
