sms confirmation

so, i played with my new s40 for a little bit
Pocked around in the menus and changed some settings.
sent an sms message and then got confirmation that it was sent,
thought "hey thats cool" and remember that you can turn that on or off in the sms setup menu.
went in there and the confirmation menu was missing.
"i know I saw it in there earlier"

any ideas on how to get that menu back
software version 2.9
tried power cycling. and the reset code doesnt seem to work.

i think your phone has just died, what i meant is the software, u'll need to upgrade it to 3.2.0, my phone has the same problem with yours, and rite now i'm trying to send it back to Germany to get it fix...boy i hope that would never happen, or i'll just have towait for siemens in my country established this phone, i already tried everything, it wont do a thing at all.......just upgrade it.

so I called siemens, they say the sms confirmation is dependent on the carrier. I swear I saw the menu item before. Oh well.
The battery died in about 1 1/2 hrs. with 1 call, 2 sync attempts.

I am going to do another overnight charge and see how things go the second day.

after calling the number howard put up instead of the one in the manual, I got them to agree to update the phone.
The phone in general is not too bad, just the sms menu item and the thing locking up when I go to fast in the adress book.
I did get it to sync with outlook xp on win2k though.
that was a time saver.

here is the email I recieved from siemens this morning.


I am replying to your Call Center Escalation that was sent to my attention.
In all likelihood, the only problem with the phone is that you have a
very old, possibly even unreleased version of software. SIEMENS will
update your S40 to the most current release of software at no charge, and
send you a new S-40 CD ROM. In order to do this you must follow a specific
procedure. We will also test the phone and ensure that there are no other
problems with the unit Your RMA # is RH-****-****. This number is
critical.
Complete shipping instructions are found at the following web site:

Follow these instructions carefully. Allow 5-7 days for the return of your
S40.
