Which PDA/Smartphone to buy?

Treo / Motorola / Blackberry / HP IPAQ /I-PHONE ...?

I m looking for full PDA functionality or at least most of the features, + phone + wifi + GPS and GSM (unlocked) so I can switch SIMM cards.

I m currently with Rogers Canada (no contract) and don't plan to get the data plan right-away.

I am looking to spend $550 - 600ish CDN$. What would be the best deal? I was thinking maybe HTC Touch or BlackBerry 8300 Curve?

Thanks!

You have to have a BB dataplan to use GPS on the BB. No way around it as map data is constantly downloaded, can't store on the BB or the microSD.

You also need the BB dataplan for Internet and email.

So, IMHO, if you aren't planning to get data, don't get the BB.

Agreed. The only good option for a map program where maps are downloaded onto the card (i.e., no need for data) is with Nokia Maps and a Nokia smartphone (obviously), in which case a Nokia E61i might serve you well, as it undercuts your price and handles all the things you want with ease. And if you don't want it in that format you can consider options such as the Nokia N95.

Otherwise, for that price, I would pick up an HTC TyTN or TyTN II(which has builtin GPS). The iPhone doesn't offer much in terms of features, whereas the aforementioned options allow for VoIP calling over WiFi and are almost endlessly modable. Plus, the HTC's have 3G.

Hey, don't low ball the N95! It has 3G too if you pick up the right version.

Is this an upgrade version of HTC Touch? Unfortunately it releases on Dec 23rd, I need to buy one before that date.

As for HTC tytn II, this seems to be the only place selling one in Canada. Has anyone bought stuff from them before?

Also, which one is a better deal over : HTC tytn vs HTC Touch ?

Thanks!
