Smartphone face-off (Blackjack II vs. Moto Q9h vs. HTC Tilt vs. Apple iPhone)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK, I'm on AT&T's network, and I've got a 3G plan already in my name. I'm currently looking to get a new Smartphone for myself, but I'm not quite sure what to get.

-Blackjack II

-HTC Tilt

-Apple iPhone (8gB)

-Moto Q9h

All of these seem like killer phones, but which is best? I'm big on performance for price, but are any of these more than just pretty faces? I'm rather attracted to the Q9 and the iPhone in terms of looks, but are either of 'em any good? I need some opinions before I go and shell out some money for any one of these.

I have been doing the 30 day trials shopping for phones/service. I tried AT&T and am now with Verizon...Poor coverage and nothing i liked for a phone at AT&T.
However that being said i did have the Blackjack 2 for about 5 days and here is what i thought..

Pros:
Sleek design
feels sturdy
256MB internal memory
no slop common in some of the RiM keyboards
WM6 is a sweet OS very fast!
nicely spaced keys for bigger fingers
Fairly customizable (pics ringers Etc)
front scroll wheel
Office Mobile
I had the AT&T $20 data package for smartphones and can access everything (not sure which package is necessary but the less expensive one is working ATM)

Not a horrible phone if you can get past the cons....
Battery life is SHORT SHORT SHORT! The box says 3 hours talk time (even tho phone scoop had it at 7) but under heavy use (no calls) I had the battery die in under 90 mins. unfortunately this version doesn't have the second or extended battery the original had.
Buy the car charger! You'll need it. Be prepared for the long charge times too.
The softkey area is very uniform and hard to distinguish where your fingers are without looking.
OMG the fingerprints! The gloss case and screen show EVERYTHING. Even future finger and face prints are already visible.
Office mobile while allowing you to open and edit your Documents doesn't allow you to create them. Which is passable if you email yourself EVERY template
Sometimes the Data connection is moody and it disconnects you if you switch modes during downloading or page changes.
My suggestion is to wait for them to release it with an extended or second battery, if you have your heart set on this phone..otherwise keep shopping. Good Luck

Correction: Iphone is NOT a smartphone.

Tilt is going to be the most powerful phone

Blackjack and q are pretty much the same

Iphone is not a smartphone. Doesn't even know how to send 2 texts or know what mms means. Far from smart. Still cool with a nice screen, internet and video.

I would take the iphone between these phones. That is just me. But I would never show anyone around here. I would claim a RAZR or sidekick before an iphone. So if you get it, keep a secret. If you choose an iphone as your picture, don't stroll out of the apple forum. Especially into the nokia forum and mention n95 and iphone in the same post. They will eat you alive.

But all those phones are good. Just depends what you need it for.

See what I mean? The nokia police don't play.

I would hate to see if an e90 and n95 guy saw someone on the street corner having fun with their iphone. Taking pictures with it and stuff. What would they do to him?

They probably wouldn't care, because the guy likely wouldn't be parading it around saying it was so amazing and this and that like certain people do here

The Tilt is the best phone in the list. It does all that the other phones can do and then some. Gunmoku, you say you're big on performance for price, but then you want the Q9H/iPhone because of how they look? The Tilt can be had for $175 with a 2-year plan. That's the best performancerice ratio out there.

A Nokia E90/N95 user would laugh in the face of an Iphone user claiming "look at me, I'm using a smartphone" and simply walk off.

At the end of the day, E90, which is the flagship corporate device from Nokia, cannot be compared to feature-less Iphone.

Iphone is good for web-browsing and listening to music and well, using it as an Ipod touch.
Want a real phone? Get any phone besides the Iphone.

i would have to say tilt over the other two smartphone options because they don't have a touchscreens. this sort of makes them the lesser versions of windows mobile phones and i couldn't live with that .

couldn't have said it better...the Tilt is by far the best. Touchscreen, awesome physical keyboard, 3G, customizable interface, its got it all.

they are all good phones, but it depends on what you want to pay for and what you like. Don't have a Tilt but it sounds like it'll do everything and gets great reviews, but its big IMO. Q9h and BJ2 are very similar and from most reviews the Q9h has the edge, but I have a BJ2 and love it so far. And then theres the iphone for $399.

Definitely. When you have a phone in your pocket that you know trumps a lot of the competition should anyone be so ignorant as to get into a pissing contest about their phones, you tend to be more modest and keep it in your pocket when you're not using it. I've certainly had my bit of fun with the customers who come in proudly using an iPhone, but I've never had to pull out my phone to to embarrass them.

As with Mac users, iPhone users are the exact same.

Actually, I change my vote. I think..

Does the q9h have the same keyboard as the verizon q music? I love that phone. It just feels so perfect in my hand. I love the keypad. And all black, with a slightly better camera and opera built in. I like. I like too many phones. But just something about the feel of the keypad, you just want to type on it.

OK, by the looks of it here, it seems to be a throw-up between the Q9, the BlackJack 2, and the Tilt.

I mostly want a good texting/multimedia phone (that uses 3G), and can organize stuff like calendars and whatnot. I'm leaning towards the Tilt (no pun intended) or the Blackjack.

EDIT:// Just picked up an announcement on Apple working on a 3G iPhone. Two words: F***ING SOLD. I was waiting on news of an improved/faster iPhone before I committed. I think right now I'm going to hunt down a cheap deal on a Q or BJ2 and hold off on my upgrade until either a REALLY killer smartphone hits AT&T (which is doubtful since the Q9 already launched) or the 3G iPhone comes out.

If texting is one of your priorities, both the current iPhone and the next gen will both have full multi-touch QWERTY, which is the worst texting solution. The only possible saving grace would be if a slide out keyboard of some kind were added to the next gen iPhone, but I have a feeling you won't see it. Hardware QWERTY is always better than any touchscreen QWERTY.

Posted by: huskyfan23

I remember reading that the European iPhone would be 3G and that some amazing update would add a file browser and tons of other stuff. Still waiting to see that

I agree with Jonny. I have an iphone, came from a long line of windows mobile devices with keyboards and the iphone keyboard is god awful. i can't type worth crap on it, i'm constantly hitting the wrong letters. the only reason i bought it is for the ipod, i really wanted the tilt but an unlocked tilt would set me back at least 400 plus i'd have to buy more memory and windows media player for wm isn't the best option for playing music. if all you want is good texting stick with windows mobile especially since you can't send a text to more than one person on the iphone

Posted by: acuraintegralov

The q9h or the tilt are my votes. Simple choice would be, if you can navigate without a touchscreen and want a better keyboard, but don't mind using task manager to close certain apps, then go with Q9. But if you must have a touch screen, then the tilt...
