I just ran across a good price on the BJ2 at www.freehotphones.com AKA Inphonic AKA Wirefly. They're charging $139.99 for upgrades with contract renewal. I got my BJ1 from them last year for a good price also and did not have any problems dealing with them.

Ultimately I got mine for ~$75:

$249 w/2 year renewal
-$100 (magic discount, the CSR said it was in my file and he didn't know why, but hey, I'm not complaining )
-$75 since they were having a 50% off sale on phones over the weekend (extending to Dec 1st now).

I could have also gotten the $100 rebate but I didn't want to switch from my mediamax 200 plan ($20) to their cheapest current data plan ($40) because I would never be able to switch back since th MM200 plan is no longer available.

Now that is a good deal. I wish I could get one of those "magic discounts".

Where is this??? What CSR from what company had the 'magic discount'?

the discount was at an AT&T store in the Seattle areaa. All I can think of was that I was off contract for around 9 months so maybe they were anxious to lock me back in.

Mine will be $33 all in after I get my mail-in rebate:

$299 w/contract renewal
$100 instant rebate for the samsung sale
$100 "magic" discount (see below)
$100 mail in rebate
----------
-$1
Tax was on the full amount and came in around $34

So I ended up at $133 and change out of pocket and mailed in my 100 rebate form today.

Apparently the so-called "magic" discount is related to an upgrade promotion (there was a poster in my local ATT store for it) for those who are out of contract. Accoding to the store manager, the actual amount is a formula based on the length of time as a customer (I've had my account since the PacBell PCS days) How often you upgrade your phone, how far you're out of contract, etc... It maxes out at $100.
