8820 Edge connection stops working, have to reboot

The last few days I've noticed that sometimes my connection to the EDGE network will stop allowing me to use data services (voice still works). This will continue indefinitely until I either reboot the phone or stop and start the Mobile network connection. Stopping and starting this connection seems to be a very temporary fix, and the problem comes right back as soon as I start to download any kind of app and I could almost swear that the failure coincides with the screen timeout. Anyone else have this problem or possibly have a fix for it?
