Closining 3G data connection on BJ2

OK I have the 3G at the top/middle of the screen, then when i
do some browsing i get a 2nd 3G symbol over the signal bars
for the data connection I presume.

I close Internet Explorer (IE) by hitting the 'end' key and then
I open 'Task Manager' to stop the IE application.
The 3G symbol over the signal bars is still there, but why.
It was not there before I opened IE and did some browsing?
Is it affecting battery life in this mode?
Clarification please.

data connection doesn't drain the battery as much as when in use. During stand like that it doesn't send any data and it doesn't kill off the battery, just like when your phone is connected to the voice network but you aren't actually in a call.

To close the connection tho, got o the Wireless Manager and click "Menu" then "Disconnect Data" or something like that.

I don't see wireless manager' and 'disconnect data' anywhere.

hit the power button on the top of the phone to bring up a list

then go to wireless manager, hit menu and disconnect cellular data

That did it, thanks.

or

start - settings - More - connections - Wireless Manager

or

Homescreen with AT&T Logo area selected.(above Calendar/SMS area) Hit the center button on the wheel to select it and it opens Wireless Manager right away.
