T-Mobile's 'Razr V3 - Pearl Gray'...wtf??

I've been using the 'original' Razr since it debut in '04 and I still use it to this day...well, 'least till the battery completely drained out on me. I am so used to that phone so much that I wouldn't mind getting another one - in a different color that is.

Anyway, to make the long story short: my current carrier (T-Mobile) offered me a few phones and one of which I'd selected for myself was the 'Pearl Gray' Razr.

The phone was nice, except:
The 'battery door' wasn't like my silver Razr, this gray one was made out of thin soft plastic and its got a rubbery feel to it (bends softly and easily). Although the original silver aluminum battery door does fit in the gray one, but it looked too weird because of the color combo.
Also, the internal screen was lacking the calendar (mm/dd/year) that I'm so used to and there was no option to display an 'analog' clock.

What the hell have they done...or maybe Motorola did it for this gray model?
Can these features be modified in? I've never mess with or do any editing on phones before. What do I need?
It's really pissing me off what these idiots are doing this to these nice phones.

Well, since 2004, t-mobile has probably changed the software they put on the phones, which explains the lack of options.

They can be modded in, check out some modding sites for instructions. That phone had T-Mo's My Faves in it also, you may want to remove the corelet as well.

Can't help u with the software, but have u checked out the V3t? Metal colors machined casing... lights years more attractive than original Razr, look-wise.

Yes, unfortunately that model has been discontinued. I called T-Mobile today and they are willing to take the phones back and reimburse me all associated costs, but that was too much of a hassle - and certainly wasn't my intention.

I will probably buy a 'gray' metal battery cover if available either through Motorola or perhaps ebay. The Motorola W490's battery door that I received from them is also made out of thin, bendable rubbery plastic. I'm not sure if the original unbranded W490s are like that but I have a feeling that the morons at T-Mobile replaced some (if not most or all) of their middle to higher end phones to plastic battery covers.

At the mean time, I'll have to research more about 'modifying phones' which I hate to do, fact is, I despised T-Mobile much more for crippling all these nice phones and disabling all its essential features.
