Without knowing how you unlocked on 1.0.2, combined with you looking for easiest / trouble free solution..I recommend IphoneSimFree.

$60, worth it for me -- fixing the iUnlock(anysim) corruption done to my 1.0.2 firmware (so I didn't have to go through re-virginizing) -- and then appsnapp at 1.1.1 is dead easy.

Additional bonus of IPSF unlock is that it has held from 1.0.2, to 1.1.1 and now to 1.1.2 -- without having to re-unlock each time, (or when I restore). You just jailbreak/activate -- re-unlocking not required with IPSF.

Have a peek..

'Need' is subjective though based on his original criteria; if his focus is 'ease' trumping 'cost' -- then a solution that only ever needs 1 unlock vs. repeated unlocks with each firmware release is 'easier' on a go-forward basis.

Although if you walk him through it real-time, I am sure all will go easy; but not everyone will have an iPhone Jedi on stand by...

i dont mind paying, if its easy and wont mess up my iphone, i'll be the first to admit i suck at this stuff. the one that unlock my iphone was my buddy and he was on vacation. i dont know if its really necessary the upgrade, i read through out this that it helps on some levels and app.tapp the new upgrade helps, i havent downloaded the upgrade for installer because it says it would work better on the new firmware, also i read on HOFO that most of the new app coming out are for the new firmware so i want to upgrade for those stuff. i read some steps on a thread here but there are some things i dont understand i dont wanna go ahead and do it without knowing. OHh i could ask someone who lives nearby but i am currently living in Puerto Rico because of my GF, so theres not that many people with iphones that i know

Its important to mention first that if you are a computer / hacking novice, you would want to set aside a complete Saturday or Sunday, and anticipate problems - where you don't panick and refer to the guides suiting the path you chose, enlisting help where stuck. If this scares you, stay where you are - or tap a geek friend to help you.

Then, understand that the ipsf route is slightly easier, in saving some steps - now and future; but again the best advice is to measure any benefit you see to upgrading vs potential loss of a whole weekend if worst case manifests.

Another option is to instead offer the $60 you would pay for ipsf as a bounty to someone reputible here to walk you through anySim realtime via paypal and skype or MSN session

Geek, macgeek or drakkhen are anySim gurus you may want to pm
