Incoming calls from USA on a pre-paid phone

Hi, I understand that incoming calls are free to phones on T-Mobile Germany pre-paid plans. What I was wondering is if they are free only from certain phones (ie T-Mobile phones, land lines in germany, land lines in the States). I will be abroad for a while and was wondering if calls from the States would cost me money/minutes.

Thanks!
Patrick

All incoming calls to mobiles are free no matter where they originate from

Hello, I plan on getting the same kind of SIM. But I was wondering if vodaphones was the same as t-mobile for any number (i'm assuming it is)?

And also, which would be best for coverage in Hamburg?? Or are they pretty much the same?

Does it allow calls to be received at all outside of Germany such as the Netherlands or the UK? Even if not free....

Thanks a lot....

I've had better luck with T-Mobile as far as consistency in voice quality and coverage but Vodafone is about the same, especially in metro areas. I'm not sure if Vodafone's pre paid allows incoming calls outside of Germany. I know I pay a one time charge of .75 Euro per call and then the rest of the call comes from my minutes when I'm in Austria. You might be better off getting a sim everywhere you go, which isn't difficult at all. I'll ask around and see if I can find out though.

The eu has made a stand on this and for the most part, as I understand it, with any of the large telcoms such as T Mobile and Vodafone, roaming is indeed allowed throughout the eu and you will be able to receive calls at a very reasonable rates (I think it's something like 0,24€ which is scheduled to drop to 0,19€ sometime in the future)...the last poster refers to something called vodafone passport (although it is called something else on Vodafone DE) which, now here is where our German friends can help, an alternative to the eurotariffs (interestingly enough the eu Commissioner in charge of these things had been hoping to get free reception of calls throughout the eu but this would have cost the telcoms millions so she had to settle for 0,24€...it is actually a few eurocents higher due to V.A.T.

BTW there are also several really top notch international cards that give you the free reception of calls all through Western Europe, eu or not....you can look up United Mobile www.united-mobile.com which offers a sim card with a British (+44) number, free reception of calls throughout all of Europe east of Russia and also in places like Australia and South Africa and Israel, calls for the most part are 0,29€ with a 0,25€ set up fee for call.

They, unlike some of the other international cards centred on the Isle of Man, have been very stable. They originally used a Liechtenstein (+423) number but as termination fees increased without bounds, they had to move to +44 but their service for the most part has been very very reliable.

You can also look up Yackie Mobile, O9 mobile in Iceland and several Estonian companies such as Air Baltic for inexpensive international roaming cards with free incoming but I think, at least for the present, the +44 number is best.
