LG VX8350 or Krzr K1m?

Upgrading my college age daughter's phone for Christmas. I can get the Krzr K1m for $19.99 with online discount and the VX8350 for $49.99. I've heard of battery life problems with the K1m so even though I'd like to get by cheaper, I don't want her to end up with a phone she will not like. Battery life and reception are big issues. Bells and whistles are not a big thing for her. Reliability is. Which would you go with?

I just went through same evaluation after my older Motorola RAZR got destroyed. I went for the VX8350 based on other postings re battery life and reception. I've been very happy with the phone and I can say that the ability to operate in marginal signals is much better than my RAZR was.

After conditioning the battery thru a couple cycles, I'm getting 3-4 days life, even with fair amount of bluetooth headphone usage, total talk time has been right about three hours.

The keys have a nice tactile feel and hacking it to download your own ringtones is fairly easy. I'm a Dad who depends on the phone for business so reception and battery life were my top two issues. The 8350 performs better on both when compared to any phone I've had since the large Nokia brick phones of the early 90's. (huge batteries).

Also, the VX8350 is rated at only 0.34 SAR (compared to 1.13 for the KRZR) --if you're concerned about the potential harmful effects of phone radiation.

I believe that today, (06 Dec) the new maroon version of the phone will be available from Verizon.

...and lastly, my college age son likes his LG Chocolate, but he has to step outside to hold a call (house is in marginal signal zone) while my 8350 works fine from inside. He's now wondering if he should trade-in the Chocolate.

Happy Holidays

I had the KRZR for a long time and my roommate has the 8350. His phones would always work perfectly, whereas I had constant problems. Reception was constantly an issue and I would sometimes have to charge the phone fully 3 times a day. Eventually I upgraded to the Q9m, and I couldn't be happier, but between the two you are looking at, the 8350 is much better in pretty much every aspect. Good luck

ps I live in a town with terrible cell reception and the 8350 always has great reception.
