HTC Touch Battery Drain?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Rubosh

Hello there, so far i love touch, only question/problem is that i am having trouble with battery time. i have to charge almost every day, having talked like 10 mins max and using IE/Text msging. Its abit low for battery time?

btw, ActiveSync is turned off from task manager.

Please Help,

Check if there are any "running" applications in the background on your touch that could be one reason for your battery being drained so fast. If there are programs running that you have opened and are done using just close them off.

Posted by: Rubosh

they are all usually closed. i do the hard close, so they wont stay open

My first day of use, I was out of power by 2PM or so.

I since lowered the backlight setting, set e-mail for checking every hour rather than every 15 minutes, routinely shut off programs and end all data connections.

I now get home around 7PM with the battery at ~60-70%, after liberal use of data, text, and voice communication.

I have the same problem with my Bell Touch

The cause of the battery drain is the constant searching of phone signal reception.
So if you're in an area that you know has a poor Bell Reception, it better to turn off the phone function to save battery.

I live in a basement apartment and i found out that Bell has no reception in my place. one night i charge my Bell Touch at full battery before i sleep but i forgot to turn off my phone function, the next day when i checked it from 100% it went down to just 10%. i used to be with Telus before, and it the same thing very poor reception. but with Rogers in my HTC x7500 im still getting a good 2 bars of phone signal.

Posted by: TouchFLO

after various battery tests
-------------------------
battery is 1100mah in capacity

with the screen brightness to the lowest setting

1 hour talk time(3 bars) = 250mah
1 hour internet using ie = 200mah
1 hour internet using im+opera mini = 140mah
1 hour mp3 playing with screen turned off = 80mah
1 hour video = 180mah
3 hours internet connected + im running in background while in standby mode=150mah

so after a full charge if you use it 2 hours talk time,2 hours browsing using opera mini+im,1 hour music, you would have used up approx 860mah, add the battery it uses while in standby, so you're about 900mah for the whole day. 900mah of 1100mah is about %82, so you're left with <%20. the seidio 1500mah extended battery(which by the way doesn't extend the size of your device) will give you about an hour and a half extra talk time.

i will personally get this 1900mah battery when it comes out soon. it extends the size of the phone a bit but it doesnt look that bad.almost double capacity.here is the cover for it

Not too much calling with my use, but lots of Windows Live Messenger and having Windows Live Hotmail set for push and plenty of browsing in Internet Explorer seems to get me through 24hrs on a single charge with screen on lowest brightness.

I can confirm this as well. I found that just riding the subway for an hour puts a good amount of drain on the battery, I now switch the phone function off once I'm underground.

Hmm, I guess it's not just my Advantage using up the battery fast. Too bad, I remember my good old Hiptop and it can last a whole day usually.

Does anyone else notice how sluggish the phone is when you go into airplane mode??
Mine noticeably slows down for a few minutes.
Also, it takes it a good few minutes to completely come back out of airplane mode and be ready for full regular use. The “busy” spinning wheel keeps going and going.

Is it just me?

I noticed their website says : "...without extending the shape of your phone." So this high-capacity battery will not require a new back case and will fit in the original HTC slip case?

Sounds like a deal to me if that's the case.

Yea,me too,had a ***** of a time getting it back to normal.I almost did a hard reset to get it back, but after a half an hour of fiddling,it finally came back.

The 1500mah version apparently fits with the stock cover, but creates a much tighter fit and should still fit in the stock case.

wow, thanks for responses
will probably get the extended battery once this one is close to be dying.. i am cheap

i think one day for a charge is about par for the course for these types of devices...when i sold them, we always told customers they will need a car charger...some of them didn't think they would, but we reminded them these use a TON more power than their old phone would have used...most would buy, the few that insisted they would be fine, were usually back the following weekend to get one.

For that price you could pick up over 10 batteries on eBay and not have to worry about power again

Yeah, or you could pickup one of those USB Charging units that "keep your Ipod running for days on a single charge"

so assuming from the image, this new battery will be from Htc? when and where will I be able to get it?

Posted by: rvnteck

this walk-in PDA store at downtown got the batteries & other cool stuffs for the htc touch CDMA & other PDA phones:
http://www.softpocket.ca/en/my_acce...2654/index.html

i already bought a crystal case, holster that will fit a skinned htc touch, anti glare screen protector & a 8gb micro sdhc from them. Good thing about it because its a actual store you can try all the cases before you buy. so im really satisfied on what im buying.

It's not on their website. Where else can we find this battery?

DO NOT BUY THIS BATTERY!!!

Extensive and realistic tests have been made on this battery, look over at ppcgeeks.com vogue's forum, search 1500mah in the title you'll find the post. Seems like this battery doesn't last any longer than the stock one so beware.

Posted by: blackdogs377

well i bought a 2200mah battery for my touch on ebay for $2.50...

we'll see how long that lasts when it gets here

I've seen that, but had my doubts about the 2200 mAh on it. Keep us posted on the results.

Geez...

Check the forum again.

Someone at the ppcgeeks forum actually bought it and tested it and it's actually good. The reviewer said that it got 80% more battery life when watching videos (the 80% was advertised) and got way better results, almost double when he was going about his daily routine.

Posted by: blackdogs377

well i bought this

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:MEWN:IT&ih=011

theres a ton more of those on ebay

ill keep you guys posted on how it turns out

Posted by: Josico

Could you post if it is any larger than the regular battery and if it comes with a different enclosure because of that? From the pictures, it looks like it will fit in the original battery cover.

EDIT:
Was just reading the description on eBay. It says:
Quote:
Best replacement for the original battery with comparable standby and talk time.

I wonder, with double the mah, how can it be only comparable? Anyways, let us know if you get any better results with the new battery!

Posted by: blackdogs377

yea i will make sure to post about it. hopefully its what the seller says it is.

Posted by: blackdogs377

and even if it is a regular 1100mah battery, im not loosing much anyway, and i get an extra battery for it anyway :P

Geez...Be objective and at least, post your sources

First, advertised improvements are 20% not 80%. Basic math : (400mah/1100mah)*100 = 36% improvement in terms of mah. So, how could "video watching battery life" could be improved by 80%??? And how could he DOUBLE his battery life in daily routine??
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.a...PROD&ProdID=879

Second, I've seen numerous tests and feedback on this battery and it doesn't look good. Some are noticing improvements but the majority is not so that is why I'm warning people buying this.
