iPhone frustration

I've had the iPhone for a few months now. Honestly getting sick of not having 3rd party apps or anything more useful than what came on it. Getting to the point where I am desperate enough to try some hacks. Heres what I want to do. I want to just install apps, the sim can remained locked to AT&T, I'm not needing or wanting to switch carriers. I'm really confused on the concept of jailbreaking and unlocking, I've read alot of the guides and a lot of them mention AnySim? I don't know what AnySim is?

My phone originally came with 1.0.2 and I upgrade to 1.1.1, Should I upgrade to 1.1.2 to install 3rd party apps or just do it on 1.1.1?

Do I have to include the AnySim step included in the guides?

I am on a Mac, if someone that could answer these questions make a quick guide for me that'd be really appreciated.

From what I understand, AnySim is if you want to use Tmobile or something, basically you can use Any Sim card. I believe you need Jailbreak to install third party apps. Use this tutorial, I hope its the right one

For ease of use keep it on 1.1.1 for now. All you need to do is open safari and go to http://jailbreakme.com and click on install appsnapp. After about 30 seconds you will be jailbroken (able to install 3rd party apps) and have a new installer icon. First thing you need to install is BSD subsystem (allows certain apps to run) and community sources. Make sure you set auto-lock/sleep to never before trying to install BSD subsystem. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes and you don't want it getting interrupted.

Welcome to the wonderful world of unofficial 3rd party apps!

DO NOT use any sim. It is for unlocking (using your iPhone on other carriers), if you want 1.1.2 use Geek.dll's guide on the top of the fourm. It's realitively easy to JAILBREAK 1.1.2 which is what you want to do. I have 1.1.2 unlocked and jailbreaking was the simplest part althought what dhendriksen said about 1.1.1 is true it is even easier to jailbreak

Ok I have installed Apptapp by going to jailbreakme.com over wifi on the iPhone. The installer icon appeared and I went into it and installed BSD subsystem 1.5, currently I am looking for the Community resources I need to install but I can't find them. Can someone help?

Nevermind last post, I went into uninstall and found Community 3.0 already installed so guess its time now to start testin these apps...Woo Hoo ty ty ty all that replied. You are my heros! Time to see what the iPhone should have been able to do outta the box!

Was the simplest thing I've ever done to a phone!
