I'm 17. I need a job, and working part time at a corporate att store sounds appealing due to commissions, work line, etc.

Does anyone know their policy regarding hiring minors? I can't go through the online process because I'm not 18. Thanks

because sales people are involved in the processing of contracts you have to be 18 or older to work sales at any wireless carrier.

well stated, cellguy.

I appreciate your ambition as a young-un trying to break into teh woking world, and I wish you the best of luck. And I know you probably think a 12 year old could sell wireless, and you're probably right, the law dictates otherwise, because our customers sign long-term contracts, and you have to be of legal age to do that....even though most customers don't think or reason above a 9th grade level....then again, neither does management... Gp figure....

You should try to get a job at a busy COR store as a greeter. You will be able to learn and help about 80% of the customers coming through the door. (How to power on,copy address book, read a bill, call XBM,read LDI dot ...)

Most greeters have enough experience to become RSCs but they also see what RSCs go through and deside not to cross to the darkside.

Merry Christmas, come again ...

sigh, well there goes that idea. i'll look into that greeter thing.
thanks guys

Isn't that the truth? I'm an SSR that's older than most of the reps in my store with lots of CS experience, but after seeing what they go through on a daily basis, I think I'll stick with doing what I'm doing, thanks.

do customer care reps extend contracts? because i know both internally and externally there are minors taking calls.

I'm in the Port Activation Center and we activate service for plenty of customers daily and I can confirm 17 Year Olds work here.

We have to legally assume that the Customer has went through a point of sale and been explained their contract though (We don't start the process, Telesales or a store or the internet always initiates the account creation and we are just to help with the activation side of things).

Do you have any experience with working on cellphones? It's gonna be pretty tough for you to get in. If this is your first job, then it's gonna be pretty hard. And, AT&T won't hire someone who is younger than 18 years old.
I would suggest you to get a job at somewhere else for a year and then move to AT&T. Btw, part-time is pretty hard position to get. In my store we have 8 full timers, and only 2 part timers.

Try getting a job at Best Buy in the wireless department.. The pay isn't all that great since you don't have commission, but you'll be able to earn valuable experience in the wireless industry, not with just att, but the other big guys as well. That's experience that'll certainly help you get a job @ att.

I use to work for BBY in the wireless department. I was 16 when i started back in 03. They didn't seem to have any issues with me being under 18 and dealing with contracts, they just wouldn't let me stay clocked in past 9:30pm.

BBY has never been known for its intelligence as a company. The store I worked at wouldn't hire under 18. And while it is fun to be there, and you will get experience in cellular sales, there are downsides like the lack of comm. I'd try the greeter route at a cor my self and move into RSC, or go third party like Costco or Wireless Giant. How much longer until you are 18?
