How's your Tilt's battery life?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've been using the Tilt for a week or so.... however, I found the Battery life for the Tilt is kind of poor. It can't last longer than 2 days. What about yours?

I consider 1 day to be good battery life for an WM PDA like this one. I can fully appreciate how anyone coming from a standard phone or Blackberry (or most other phones) that lasts over week will condider it poor, but my experience says you should get used to charging nightly with this type of device.

Operating as a phone only with no automatic email checking or anything, I get about a 1/4% per hour battery drain in standby. That's best case scenario basically not using it, just on and waiting for calls. With push email on about 1% battery drain per hour.
With any other use life is shorter.
By the time I go to bed and throw it on the charger I usually have 40% to 60% battery left unless I've had some prolonged sessions with wifi or GPS without some supplimental charging.

I took me about 3 weeks for the battery to condition and get to this full capacity.

Anyway, this is what I'm seeing.

It will last for couple of days if I have email off, but once I turn on Active Sync Push email, it only lasts for a day.
Still better than that crappy Treo 750 I used to have (why did I ever buy that crap...),
with the 750 my battery would warn me it's under 10% at around 7 pm and that's with hardly any talk time, just email.
With 8925, I unplug it from the charger around 7:30 am and plug it in at 11 pm and usually have over 20% left.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.0.9800/209; U; en))

mine is surprisingly good. I use flexmail for imap idle all day. some days i'm down to just 90 with casual use, but others I am down to 50. I also only use 3g.

When I was only on EDGE, I could get 2 days out of it. Then I fixed my 3G problem and can only get 1 day max. However, I think it is also because now that I am on 3G, I check my gmail (via the gmail java app) a LOT more because it doesn't take it 2 minutes just to open 1 email.

Overall, 1 day is OK for a phone like this when you are using a lot of data.

i don't make it through one day. I think my battery is trashed

Not bad for me...I can go two days on a charge! However I normal plug in everynight before going to bed even if it is sitting @ 60-70%. Mine is cooked and I only use 3G when I'm cruising the NET, I check my pop email every 30 minutes, and use GOOD for work email. I go though 100MBs/month at least to give you an data usage idea for me. I can't complain considering how I use my phone.....

I'm not a phone hog though as I only have the 450 minute plan and always have roll over minutes

Also there are larger capacity batteries, but i have no experience with them and can't really comment.

Unfortunately, I think the 1600 mAh battery is the only one where it won't have a large noticeable bump.

My Tilt's battery is excellent consider what it all does.

Posted by: imsoscared

considering i probably stream music online, thru my bluetooth bout 2 hours out of the day total. it barely would last thru a single day with light web surfing.
but hey thats why we all bring wall chargers to work and have car chargers in the car

with what I do most of the time, checking email, going online, listening to music, using bluetooth, my battery last about 20 hours before I have to charge, which is really normal, as I've read it on XDA, you should charge the battery as often as you can

2 full days easily. with exchange server email set to Push. gmail account checking every hour. and sending 200-300 txt mssgs/day. oh and i make calls sometimes too

I navigated in San Francisco for the past weekend with my Tilt and iGuidiance. Everything seems fine. I can say the navigation is excellent except some area in the financial district. The battery life... it will drop about 25% in an hour. Remark: only turn on GPS but no phone.

where can i get the OEM 1600 mAh battery? the standard battery doesn't do me any justice for my usage (Aim, Text, light surfing on edge, playing games from time to time, google maps will KILL your battery luckily i only use it when making trips)

You can get the extended batteries on eBay, but I've yet to find any that don't make the phone even thicker than it already is. I'm definitely up for ordering a larger capacity battery -- I wear my stock battery down to 30% at least once a day.

Here is one I found so far so good.

$50 for a battery, KMA!!

u can find a 1350 battery (some higher but i would only trust an OEM batterh though) on ebay. i think i've seen em for about $25-30 with about $6 for shipping. i would like a bigger battery. is going up to 1350 even worth it? not much of a jump from the standard battery.

Posted by: SoberGuy

I've only had mine two days, and I'm sorely disappointed. Sitting on 3G, and using data, the battery would never get me through the day. Will have to charge it more often than I thought. Not too bad, but it does limit me while I'm still trying to condition the battery. I don't want it to die halfway through the day.

Posted by: plug706

you need to give it a couple of weeks. i've had mine for 3 months & the 1st 2 weeks were horrible. now i get 2 days out of it using the phone, live search alot, email every 15 min., & office mobile.

I hate to bump an old topic like this, but has anyone been able to find an upgraded battery that doesn't require turning the already thick Tilt into an even thicker phone?

The 1600mAH battery linked earlier in this thread can be had on the cheap on eBay, but it really isn't much of an upgrade from the OEM battery ...

Posted by: damba98

I think the issue is maximum capacity for a particular form factor. I'd be surprised if they could squeeze in any more 'juice' for such a thin layer per se.

FWIW, I planned on picking up one of the 1600s for an upcoming trip 'across the pond'. Can anyone comment on its performance compared to the 1350 OEM which came w/ the device(?)

Thanks,
Pedro
