Does anybody know, how to check Bootloader 4.6 on the iPhone with week 45 and up. Please? I have a iPhone just bought it, it is 5K745XXXWH8, but its shows on the General: Model MA712LL at version 1.1.1(3A109a) and the Modem Firmware is 04.01.13_G. Since i have heard that from the week 45 and up are OTB 1.1.2 and with Modem FW 04.02.13_G. But i did not find any where to see what is Original Bootloader for this iPhone. I want to verify that this phone is original or had been mod by 1st owner before he hand it to me. Thankz Guys
Kev

I haven't handeled one of these phones myself yet, but it seems that you can still jailbreak these puppies and have your way w/ them, just not SIM unlock them. If this is the case, just run BBUPDATER -V in terminal or over SSH, and you should see the bootloader version.

Hope this helps,

L.

Would you please, more specific of how to run BBUPDATER to see bootloader version? Kev

BBUPDATER is basically an executable pacakge that you can run in any BSD baed terminal environment.

the switch '-v' will output information relavant to your current baseband. To get it, you can just download any virginize pack. BigBoss' sources have virginize and baseband dowgrade packs that have these, so this would definately save you time.

You can also manually download the packages onto your computer then SSH them onto your phone, but this method will probably take longer.

You can install BigBoss' sources by adding the following URL to your Installer sources: http://markmon.mine.nu:90/iphone/repo/repo.plist.

There are a bunch of other sources out there if you don't want to use this one.

With regards to your originial question issue - Week 45 is bootloader 4.6. There is nothing the guy could've done to change that, so you're 'safe' in knowing that it is still the original bootloader.

You need to install any baseband dowgrader or virginize pack.

You also need to have SSH (on the iPhone) + WinSCP (on your PC) *OR* install Term-VT100 on your iphone.

I've already have one iPhone had no wifi, no IMEI, no Bluetooth, no baseband, dont want to mess around with the jobs as Downgrade baseband or Virginizing or Unlock anymore, unless i have to. May i have from you show me each step more details, please? Drakkhen? after adding address into installer list, installed any baseband downgrader, or virginizer, what is next? Have SSH on the phone, yes + WinSCP yes, but WinSCP is for transfer files to iPhone, do i need tranfer or copy any files intomy iPhone? Or you mean that " Putty"? And for Term-VT100, what are commands that i should take? I am sorry for mine too many questions, but i am not as iPhone expert like you Drakkhen. Thank in advance

dont worry about the name of the pack. Just put bbupdate on your iphone and use any terminal program to run bbupdate -v. I tried that myself. I hesitated by the name at first. It's all good dont worry about it.

after typing bbupdater on Term-VT100 its shows:

Resetting target...
Error: Failed to initialize comm layer: (is it open by another app?)
Done
#
Please Advice

You first need to unload the CommCenter using the following command:
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Then run bbupdater -v

Finally, reload the CommCenter by running:
launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Note that this is a lot easier to do via an SSH window from your computer...

SSH service must be installed and running.

Open ssh program. Type in IP address of your iPhone then connect. Username: root Password: alpine or dottie (if you haven't changed it yet).

Run launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

cd to the directory where bbupdater is or use the absolute path to reach it.

launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

woah, thats pretty crazy. but, isnt ur phone a 1.1.1? cant you just check the version on the phone? You just cant check bootloader right?

Posted by: kevinv710

my phone now is 1.1.1. when i bought it the guy said it is unlockable, but when i check online for unlocking procedure, i found that my phone can not be unlock, because it is week 5K745. I am ATT existing customer, can or cant be, not big problem, but i want my phone can be unlockable. I lost the phone number of the seller, so i dont know it came as with that original bootloader 3.9 or i seen a Master( the seller) about iPhone can be downgrade Bootloader of the phone himself, but after i follow, teh instruction from Marc_G, i just cant believed what i seen when the result of bbupdater . It is still amazing for me.

When you say "now", are you implying that it was 1.1.2 before? Did you downgrade? Im assuming that because you have bootloader 3.9, you had a early 1.1.2? Or did you always have a 1.1.1?

Can early OTB 1.1.2 be unlocked with a bootloader 3.9? I was under the impression that the limiting factor for unlocking is not so much the version, but the bootloader?

Posted by: kevinv710

when i got the phone from the guy, it was 1.1.1 until now. I've not change anything yet, just too afraid of losing WIFI, IMEI.....et.

Glad I could help.
Also, I think I know the reason why your bootloader is still at version 3.9, even though your serial number appears to show that it is a week 45.

The first 2 letters of the serial number indicate the Factory ID of where the iPhone was manufactured.
A brand new iPhone's serial number starts with a 7 followed by a letter, whereas 5K indicates a refurbished one.

So, my guess is that Apple has refurbished a phone that was running 1.1.1 (and was never updated to 1.1.2 since the baseband's firmware is still at 04.01.13_G), and they did NOT upgrade the bootloader either.
But whenever Apple refurbishes an iPhone, they replace the rear plate with a newer one that has an updated serial number and IMEI.

Hence, it is likely that this iPhone was refurbished during week 45, and that explains the 3.9 bootloader.
I'm pretty sure all "brand new in box" iPhones that have serial numbers starting with 7x745 (week 45) are running the newer bootloader 4.6.

you are probably right Marc_G, All other 4 iphones i have with week 7X745 are bootloader4.6. I am a ATT existing subcriber, its wont hurt me, but found out at least one of them is bootloader3.9 which is unlockable made me so happy. In my local area Seattle if you have the phone with bootloader3.9 you got a chance to trade for a brandnew sealed box FW 1.1.2 and $100. I dont know why they need it, but i do know, i can trade with them to get a brandnew phone , and have $100 in my favor. Wonderful isnt it? Once again thank Marc , Drakkhen and all of you for your technical support. You are the bestttttttt.
