MOTORAZR2 V8 Message tone probs

OK this phone is lacking in one thing for me. U know how nokia phones have message alerts, the motorazr2 v8 phone doesnt have these alerts. WHen I get messages, it plays ringtones. How can I get it to give me an alert which is just a beep or smth???
