So my iPhone is having the same issues as people in the UK regarding spotty reception. I am not an AT&T customer. I am running it on T-Mo. Does Apple Confirm that your an AT&T customer before any warranty work? I don't know what to do.. PLEASE HELP

I don't think they actually confirm, but they might say something if you take it into the store or mail it in with it unlocked. do a quick restore before taking it to them

I've heard mixed responses on that. Your best bet is to do what the last poster said and restore the phone before you bring it in. Then tell them you just tried to activate it and it messed up during activation or something along those lines. If they ask why it took you so long just tell them it was a gift.

Apple will not do any warranty work to any phone that they find has been unlocked, or attempted to do so, or so they said when I sent mine in last week...

So its unlocked right now?

If so,

This should make your iphone look like it just came out of the box ;-)
but FYI if they give you a new iPhone chances are it will be 1.1.2..which means no unlocking.
ahhh

1. Upgrade to 1.1.2
2. Downgrade to 1.1.1
3. Activate (if needed) and Jailbreak it (http://iphone.ranova.org/21.shtml)
4. Install "Installer" and update it
5. In installer go to sources and add "i.unlock.no" then refresh
6. Install and run BB downgrader found in "unlocking tools"
7. Install and run "oneSim"
8. Revirginize
9. Restore again 1.1.1 or update to 1.1.2

and that my friend is how you make your iphone brand new from the box..

the thing is if u can do all that then why do u need to send it to apple to repair? it obviously works fine

that's the only problem i see

I just took mine in because part of the screen touch sensitivity died. I wiped it clean so it was just showing the att activation screen. The guy wouldn't accept it for service. I didn't tell him I'd hacked it or anything, he just told me that the warranty begins when you activate it with att. He kept saying "the only reason a customer such as yourself wouldn't activate it is if they used it for something other than what it's meant for which is AT&T service, and that voids the warranty".

I went home, pissed off, and did some research. Here's what I found:

Our records indicate this product has not been activated. Learn how to activate your iPhone. Please note that warranty service is not dependent on activating your iPhone. For more information, please contact us.

here's the warranty in full, and there is no mention of activation or at&t anywhere in it.

I'm going back today with this stuff, and if I don't get service I'll start yelling.

Just got back from the apple store. They replaced the iphone with a brand new one. I told the guy about my previous experience and he said "that doesn't sound right".

Did you get a week 45+ phone though?

Posted by: chaos86

yep. i have a nextSIM so its ok. im actually glad because theres no negative black issue.

Yes they do check, and they have VERY limited access to AT&T's system. They can tell your IMEI/ICCID from your AT&T number.

Did that works for you? What did they say?
