New Firmware (1.1.3?) On Saturday?

I didn't see this on here, but according to Cnet France, the next firmware is coming at the end of the week. I realize this is pretty much a rumor, but if cnet has it...I pray that this is true and that it has a new bootloader so I can have my phone unlocked.

Even though I don't have an iPhone at the moment (back with the Tilt for the time being...), I could only hope that iPhone firmware 1.1.3 adds the latest "My Location" feature onto Google Maps. Seeing that many smartphones without a GPS can actually get an estimated fix on the current position within a 1000 meters using the latest version of Google Maps (it's based on cell phone tower IDs), I'd be surprised if the iPhone didn't get that feature in the immediate future.

The only way the dev team MAY get an unlock out of 1.1.2 otb iphones are if apple releases the iphone WITH a NEW baseband. And the odds of it coming out saturday? I mean come on this is all hype...i gotta see it to believe it...

The ONLY thing we can do now is just pray for the dev team =]

The big deal is that you can't receive them. viewmymessage.com with a username & password is a ridiculous way to handle receiving an mms in 2007.

Here's a thought...maybe they don't want to hack it? There are plenty of people out there that don't feel comfortable hacking their 400$ investment and would like official apps, or at least apps that were actually allowed by Apple, which will have to wait until Februrary.

Not gonna happen IMHO. Much as I'd like to see it as well, Apple doesn't seem to want to allow anything over Bluetooth. Perhaps they're afraid people will hack it to allow transferring files (music, ringtones, etc.) over BT.

Well, despite the bricking of non-spec Iphones, and stupid junk like Wifi Itunes and ringtones that are soley meant for you to spend even more money on an incomplete phone.


What kind of money making scheme can they create? Maybe they can set up an automatic electronic direct withdrawal from my primary banking account. So they can have free will with my savings. Maybe then, they will listen to my feature requests, and do something right.

Have you not been paying attention? People are waiting for this so that hopefully it can unlock 1.1.2. Plus, I don't see how any update, no matter how small can be bad as long as it at least stabilizes the phone. If rumors are true, a real voice recording app and external drive mode sound great.

I personally could care less. I feel bad for the people with other carriers that do so much just to own an Iphone. Odds are that those other carriers carry phones that are ceaper and have more functionality. SO when this new bootloader comes out, what new exciting features should I exspect?

Maybe I haven't followed along. Maybe I don't want glitchy 3rd party/hacker's apps making my phone unstable. Maybe I'm just an average user, posting in the average user section, explaining my dissapointment in Apple. Yes I do want another phone, yes I wish I hadn't baught this phone, yes I'm aware that I made a mistake by buying it, yes I'm aware that Apple SHOULD be fully capable of doing 10x more than what the modding community is doing, yes I see that the Iphone has potential. Just a little disgruntled about Apple's actions thus far.

Sorry to flame out on Apple, but I just think they can do something about the shortcomings.

I haven't seen any other phone have firmware updates like Apple that add real things to the phone. Yes it's still missing some major stuff, but they have been updating once a month. If you don't want it, sell it. You can make good money off of it probably since you probably have a pre-week 45 phone. Apple is also releasing an SDK for the phone which will allow others to legally make programs for the phone. Maybe then you will stop complaining?

Ummm...people can "legally" make apps for the iPhone now. I think what you meant to say is LEGITIMATELY. Saying people can "legally" make native iPhone apps with the soon-to-be-released SDK implies that somehow it's "illegal" to make them now, which it most certainly is not.

A new firmware is very important to people that have out of the box 1.1.2 phones because it could allow those people to unlock it. Why does it matter to you what other people choose to look forward to? If you have a problem with it, online tech forums are probably the last place you should be.

Unlock? Important? Dont buy an ATT phone and complain or disslike it when you cant use it on a non-ATT service..

Are you saying people not on AT&T don't deserve to have this phone? I bought it as a product, and am just waiting for it to unlock. Never did I complain about AT&T or Apple. I agree with some people not wanting to hack. I'm okay without MMS and video, but apparently some people use it a lot. I'm just not one of them.

Either way, I just hope more apps are available in February through SDK so then you don't have to unlock the phone to get more useful apps.

From what I know, you do not need to unlock your Iphone to gain 3rd party apps. You only need to unlock it to use other carriers. From what I know, other carriers do not currently offer any more than what ATT does. Probably even less in some cases.

Personally, I would like a stable phone after loading 3rd party apps. I like stable/solid apps that require nothing more than the defaults(plug and play). The fact that all current 3rd party is written by the "hacking" community, without a real/Apple approved SDK, kinda kills the buzz for me.

OK...yeah, I'm being anal. But that's how I feel.

Off topic, but...I would also like a consolidated page of the web apps. So that I don't have to spend the time to sync and store favorites. I would like to just go to a webapp page, then scroll and choose what app I want via a hyperlink.

There are a many sites that people have put together such as mdog mobile browser and even sites that let you make up your own page of links. Also check out Google's mobile site. I have to believe that the next firmware upgrade will be at least by February since that is when the SDK will be released, per Apple. Obviously hacking will be a lot less attractive since all the coding that has been done so far could *I think* pretty easily become legitimate applications.

The only thing AT&T has that other (US) carriers don't is Visual Voicemail. Other than that, they're identical.

Don't know what you're doing, but my 1.1.1 with all sorts of apps on it is extremely stable. The "dim wallpaper" option in Summerboard 3.0 beta was causing random reboots, but it appears that the newest 3.0 (non-beta full release) has corrected that problem, and it runs rock-solid now (still testing that, though.) Regardless, I just turn off the "dim wallpaper" option, and it doesn't crash at all and is very stable.

Nothign to confirm that except my gut, of course. I'm hoping they release one sooner, with a new bootloader, so I can get back to unlocking iPhones and selling them for a quick and easy $145 profit each!

Uh, it never happened? It was merely a rumor on the French c|net website anyway, and wasn't picked up anywhere else as a news story. By all accounts and evidence thus far (the lack of an update being most prominent), the rumor was false.
