How safe is AppTapp?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I bought an unlocked iPhone with 1.0.2 firmware. all I have id the original Springboard.

I have no way of knowing what unlocking method was used to unlock it.

I'd like to install AppTapp so I can add applications etc.

How safe is it to install AppTapp if I don't know how my phone was unlocked?

I have iTunes 7.5, is this a problem?

How likely is the bootstrap failure I've heard about that causes the iPhone to relock.....

Please help, as I HAVE read and searched the forums and can't find anything that will let me know if it is safe to try to install AppTapp. Everyone seems to have that done already.

Thanks.

Probably the safest way to go is to virginize your phone right now, and start with a 1.0.2 locked phone and go from there.

You *CAN* just go ahead and upgrade - You'll know immediately that it didn't work after the upgrade if you check your IMEI and it is "0049xxxx...". If it is, then you'll have to end up virginizing anyway.

So, if you were gambling kinda guy, I'd go ahead and upgrade. If you aren't, then it's safer to virginize and relock your phone first.

So viginizing requires me to install AppTapp right?

I'm usually soo computer-literate and savvy... I feel sooo ignorant right now...

or u can use ibrickr to install installer...but crap 1.0.2....weak!!! virginize and upgrade to 1.1.2...be a man!

HAHAH...I predict the term "grow some balls" being the staple of this forum very soon...

AppTapp is safe, but you dont need AppTapp right now. You need to reviriginze your phone (there is a sticky explaining how) and then upgrade to unlocked 1.1.2. The stickies can guide you through every step of the way.

then I am confused....

I thought AppTapp would give me Installer which is what I see every guide requires...

I just tried to install AppTapp and I got the bootstrap failure...

Now my iPhone has been restored and I have to unlock it...

Oh boy

Should restore to 1.1.1 and unlock via the no computer method?

AppTapp *IS* installer

You're probably going to have to install apptapp installer at some point, so...

Might as well install it, update, and install some sources...It's probably easiest this way, although there are many ways to skin the cat.

each time I try to install AppTapp I get a bootstrap failure.

I had to restore my iPhone and it is re-locked.

I will try restoring to 1.1.1 and attempt the computer-less jailbreakme.com method.

let us know how it goes, the guide is pretty straight forward, you shouldn't have any problems. You still might need to virginize tho...

what the difference between the new firmwares does it fix anything or have any new apps?

Posted by: CyniKal.Mindset

apps are being made for the new firmware and not the old ones...

Well, it was pretty scary but I was able to restore my 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 and then EASILY jailbreak and ulock using the no computer needed method.
