Never Buy Nokia Again!!!

I used to love Nokia. I was a huge fan. I recommended them to everyone...to anyone. No more. Never again.

I bought a 6300b which, not long after I got it, began to rattle behind the earpiece. Since it isn't a baby toy, I sent it in for warranty repair. It came back in about one week with an invoice saying "no software upgrade required". They did not touch the problem.

So, I called and asked for a pre-paid shipping label to send it back again for repair. It did not arrive. I called again. They said no one ever asked for the label to be sent, but that they would send it. It did not arrive. Third time was the charm.

I sent it back to Nokia warranty repair. They received it on November 8 (with a stated 7-10 day turnaround time). After countless calls to ask what the delay was...I received today a replacement 6300b with an invoice stating that the issue could not be repaired, and that is why they sent a replacement. Ready for the punchline? The new phone HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!!!

I, of course, called warranty repair again. They told me that it was now a "new problem" and that I had to ship the phone back for repair (which according to Nokia...is NOT POSSIBLE). Are you serious?

If anyone has contact info for Nokia's General Counsel, I'd love the number. I think it can be sorted out with a 2 minute call to them.

In short...NEVER BUY NOKIA AGAIN!!!!

I understand your frustration, and this is a good place to vent. But "never buy nokia again" seems like an overreaction. Every great company has moments like that one with their products. Things happen. While I feel your pain, I will probably buy another nokia in the future. There is always the risk of something like that happening, and you can't avoid that no matter who you buy from.

I hope it works out better for you next time.

They made me wait close to 2 months to say "your phone can't be repaired"...then sent a replacement phone that "can't be repaired"...but I still have to send it in for repair isn't possible?

No...I was dork #1 for Nokia...but as the President says, "Fool me once, shame on...uh, eh...I won't get fooled again."

Just cause its a 6300b that gave you a problem doesnt mean it will happen with another nokia. lesson learn.. dont buy your next nokia from hofo but from a dealer so that u can get it fixed.

Most warranty service are like that. They ultimately don't want to fix your phone and lose money so they rather give the run arounds in hopes you quit bothering them. Kinda OT, but Dell did the same thing to me, I literally had to send in my laptop 5 times before it was fixed, took a total of 4 months.

Who said I bought my phone from HoFo?
I bought an unlocked from from a reputable company...it developed a problem common to the 6300s. The NEW phone that Nokia sent (b/c I had a Nokia US warranty)...had the same problem. It's not a dealer issue; it's a Nokia issue.

So yes...happened with two Nokias...one from Nokia itself.

Look...as I said...I loved Nokia, but no mas.

Are you talking about the rattle behind the earpiece as in the on/off button?

Posted by: baimo

The repair company in the US sucks. I sent a one week N95 in and started getting jerked around. I ended up calling US headquarters and kept demanding to speak to next level or VP. I finally got enough attention that they sent me a new phone.
I love the phones but am concerned over their repair service.

I will still buy.

The rattle is a common problem with the 6300 and I knew this before buying it. A little research would have revealed that problem to you as well before you bought it, meaning that you could have opted for a different model such as the 6500c even though it is a little more expensive. Plus there is a simple fix for the rattle if you have knowledge or phone internals. And I agree that the warantee centers for all companies are like that. Even ATT warantee exchange doesn this same thing and they have to deal with people with all types of phones.

Keep calling to get your phone fixed, or repair it yourself. But in my opinion nokia still makes a very quality product. Lets not bash them, lets just bash their warantee department for causeing so much grief.

I've used Nokia repair in the US 4 times and never had a problem.

I guess it's all personal experience.

6500 Classic was not out at the time I bought the 6300b.
Nokia says phone cannot be repaired. I am not a phone tech and cannot do it myself...nor should I have to. Nokia should not sell a phone they know to have such a problem.
I appreciate the info, but your comment contradicts itself. You say that the problem in common in certain Nokia phones, but not to bash Nokia...whose repair department cannot fix the issue. Ummm...Huh?

You still have any contact info for those who were able to help?
I'm so stuck...they can't fix it and say that don't have replacements...but that I still need to send it back in for repair. I just need someone high enough on the food chain to fix the problem.

The on off button on my 6300 rattles but I can only hear it if I shake the phone like a baby rattle real close to my ear. I don't hear it at all in normal usage when I'm just holding the phone against my ear and talking on the phone.

From what I have read, most 6300's have this rattle "issue." It doesn't bother me and it doesn't seem to bother most people who use these phones. It would be nice if the 6300's didn't have this rattle but it doesn't seem to be a real defect or problem to me.

I suppose if one had the tools and knowledge to open the phone to expose the on off switch, one could stuff a little foam in there to keep the switch from rattling, but it doesn't seem worth the effort or hassle to me.

Although it is not 100% perfect, I still love this phone and think it is the best Nokia I have ever had the privilege to own and use, especially for the price they are going for these days.

The power button is loosly fitted in the housing on some nokia models. Mine has it also. It is of no concern. If I hold my finger over the button tightly and shake, the rattle is gone. On the 6300, some have the rattle and some dont. I think is has to do with how "tight" the button is. Everything else still works fine so it isnt a concern for me.

Posted by: dhabes1973

I tried to ignore the rattle, but I'm super anal...and it bugged me. To me, a product should be tight, not loose/sloppy. How can Nokia even release a product with such a common flaw? By the way...holding the power button did not stop the rattle in my phone (or the replacement).
If I had it to do over again, I would never have sent it in for repair.

I own a 6300b and I dropped it many times; it has dents all over the place and I dont hear any rattles. :/ One thing that bugs me though; My brother has a Nokia 6300 and his phone seems much more solid compared to mine. The keypad on his 6300 feels better and less cheap than my 6300b.

Posted by: Topy

I got 6300 and it has been absolutely solid right weight and all. Keypad could be better and backside gets scratched not matter how you treat your phone.

That rattle prob sounds wierd i havent seen this in any Finnish forum or havent heard it from anybody else(as pretty many i know got this phone as it's really popular). That said if there really is many 6300 that rattle Nokia should get over with this hit and miss build quality thing they have had mostly in high end phones and still do.

Posted by: dhabes1973

Just a little update...It's now been over a week since Nokia sent me the damaged replacement phone. They said they would send a return label, as the "replacement" had to begin the repair process.
Return label arrived yet?
Nope.

The worst thing is that I've tried to contact someone, anyone at Nokia who can help...but I can't even get a reply to an email.
It's terrible.
I've never dealt with any company that's so unresponsive. They just don't care. They made a crap product, replaced it with a crap product, don't follow through on their promises, and don't return any correspondence.

I know how u all feel....my nokia 6126 keeps turning off by itself and it freezes.....the screen just stays the same wen i open it....i dont cant even turn it off to restart it....and i did take it back to fido and they couldnt find a problem...three times i had to go...third time i yelled and they replaced it with a refurb 6126.....which guess wut! is having the same problem! and now fido is telling me they cant replace it but they can extend my warranty which is useless because i need the phone to work not a longer warranty!

Update...
After 2+ months of dealing with nonsense, arrogance and incompetance from Nokia, I may finally have had a breakthrough.
I was able to speak with a very helpful rep with "Nokia Executive Resolution" who confirmed that they could not replace the phone with another, or any other model that I was interested in. She was, however, able to get clearance to allow for a refund.
Hopefully that works out in the end as they've promised the moon before. I have a good feeling that finally they're doing what should have been done months ago.
Stress subsiding...

I suffered the same ordeal twice (!) with my n90.

But Nokia has hooked me up with tons of great swag, has fed me well and even bought me drinks.

My loyalty is going nowhere.
