Razr v3 wont connect to towers when out of area

I have a Verizon Razr v3m and i notice when ever i go out of my area i lose all service and it does not pick up a new tower for the area im in. But as soon as im in my area agian i regain service. I went to a vzw store and they said my software wont auto update i have to manually do it using *228#. I cant see that being acceptable as every other phone ive had being older worked fine. Does anyone else with the v3m have to do the manual update?

If u modded the phone, yer on your own.

Otherwise sounds like a carrier issue to me, so post at the VZW forum.

phone is my moms actually, so its never been modded and is not even 6 months old

I actually had this same problem with my mom's phone (also a verizon razr v3c).

The guys at the store were clueless as to what to do, I called the *611 Verizon help and explained to the nice lady the problem and she did some fancy number changing and had me do a *228 opt 1 phone reprogram and it worked next time we went out of the home area. Seems simple, but give it a shot if you are still having trouble.
