Warranty Question on a fully restored iphone

So I had an unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone that I previously thought was bricked. It turns out the phone may just simply be defective. After many tries i finally got the phone to boot, I "virginize" the baseband, and then restore it to 1.1.1. Right after it finish restoring, the phone turned itself off again. Now it will not turn on if it is not plugged in. If plugged, it will display ther apple logo for a few second and then turn itself off again.
Since the phone has been fully restored to 1.1.1, do you think I can take it back to Apple to have them fix it? I am guessing it is the battery that is messed up.

Please share your experience, thank you!!

one question, do you need to have the receipt when you go to the apple store?

i was trying to unlock my friends iPhone but that exact same thing kept happening, it would turn on and show the apple logo but then turn off and it would keep doing it, i tried restoring 3 times but it still didn't work and then i updated it to 1.1.2 and it sopped doing that and booted up all the way.

and i dont believe you need the receipt because my girlfriend recently went to the apple store and they swapped her phone and she didnt have a receipt.

the receipt is just to show when you bought it and make sure you are still within the time period for the warranty and the iphone has been out less than a year so i dont think you need it.
