How to Get W385 Handset to Ring While Bluetooth Is On? And What Is "Headset Mode"?

I just bought a Motorola W385 from Boost Mobile and a Samsung WEP500 bluetooth headset. I, unlike some people, don't want to wear my headset all the time, but I do want to be able to take all my calls on it. The problem is that when a call comes in and the headset is on, the ringtone goes directly into the headset, but it doesn't come out of the phone speaker. So unless I'm wearing the headset, I won't be able to hear when a call is coming in. I could leave the headset off, but then I need to spend 4 seconds pushing the power button to turn it on and off every time I take and end a call, which is too cumbersome to be worth the trouble. I called Motorola and they said that this is just the way the phone works, at least with Boost Mobile's software (I have a friend with a Nokia from MetroPCS whose phone rings even when bluetooth is on, so apparently some systems are set up the way I'd like them to be). I know nothing about hacking, but I'd be willing to try if that's the only way to get the phone to do what I want it to do. Suggestions? (By the way, I have a Mac, not a PC, in case that matters.)
Also, does anyone know what "headset mode" does (settings/tools>settings>others>headset mode)? The choices are "normal" and "discreet". I can't find an explanation of it in the manual, on the web, or even from Motorola technical support. My guess is that the "normal" mode would make the handset ring and the "discreet" mode would not, but, unfortunately, that's not the case. In fact, I can't see any difference that changing "headset mode" makes. (Perhaps it only affects wired headsets?)
