HTC Touch: Sort phonebook by first name?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What is the simplest way to do this in the HTC Touch, please, so I don't inadvertently mess things up? Thanks.

Posted by: chasehx

This is more a WinMo 6 thing than a HTC thing. And sorry I don't know. Just saying people in there might have more answers.

Posted by: dingbat

Right, thanks chase.

Would the mods please move this over, if need be, and perhaps sub HTC Touch for WM6 in the title in the process? Thanks.

Unless someone comes up with an answer here. Thanks.

Go to a contact and select Edit

Then scroll down a bit to "File as" (it's right above work tel), choose the First name Last name option.

Repeat for each contact

Like icebird said you just choose First name Last name, the default is Last name, First name.

Well that was easy enough. Thanks! For some reason while I was creating the entries, it only presented one option in that field, yet now when I go back there are two. Thanks again, icebird and epsilons.

On a related note, I'm having trouble creating a "Dr. ___" entry. For example, if I create "Dr. George", it only creates "George". If I put "DR-George", it creates "Unnamed". Any ideas? Thanks.

I just tried it on my outlook contacts and I see what you mean, I was gonna suggest spelling out Doctor but it seems to do the same thing

Tap the name insert and there is an input for TITLE which you can use for a prefix such as Dr. or Mr/Mrs.

Thanks, h4waii, I see where that is. However, it does not file the name under "DR George" nor does it give an option to. The only option shown under "File as" is "George". So in the directory it shows as George and only when you select it and go into that listing does it display the title Dr.

epsilon, spelling it out works. "Doctor George", the switch the "save as" to display it that way.

Thanks again.

Guess you'll just have to start calling your doc by his first name

Seriouly, eben in MS Outlook, I've never been able to figure this one out.

I also use the Dell Axim X51v and when I prepare an email by tyoe for instance the letter B ...then all my contacts starting with the letter B pop up in the TO: field when ready to compose but that does not work with my touch...anyone have any idea why?

Thanks

Perhaps they're not being store as Contacts and being pulled from SIM. Sync SIM to Contacts DB and vice versa and see if that clears it up.
