If they determine that the phone was damaged due to abuse, they charge you $490 for the used refurb they sent you. And AT&T keeps your original phone to refurb for the next time.

While this is technically true, I don't think AT&T chacks them very thoroughly. I once did a warranty replacement on a Moto Slvr that I dropped in a glass of water. AT&T sent me the replacement one, I sent them back mine, and never had one problem. I also had a Treo 750 before the Tilt, and had 3 warranty replacements done after upgrading to WM6, never had one problem returning any of them. Warranty replacement department is MUCH nicer than the other departments lol. Every replacement phone I have received, and it has been many (I won't even tell you how many times I had to replace my first Razr) has been like new. In fact, I am not even sure they were refurbished, because they all looked brand new to me.
