Screen on Kaiser/Titl is bad

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi,

The screen on my Tilt just went bad. It displays this crazy pattern, mostly white with a few color stripes. The phone seems to start up correct, at least it plays the sound. I tried soft booting and pulling the battery out overnight. Any thoughts on other things to try?

Thanks,

Jerry

No. It was working fine when I put it on the charger, and then was messed up when I went to make a call.

Does anyone know what sort of warranty these phones have?

How did you obtain it? Store, unlocked from somewhere?

it comes with a one year warranty. it's simple, just call the # and the'll send you a new one. put yours it the box it came in and your done.-----free of course.

Unfortunately the deal with AT&T XBM sort of sucks for the phone owner. Here is how if works with a Tilt. They send you a refurbished phone. When you send in your phone they evaluate it. If they determine that the phone was damaged due to abuse, they charge you $490 for the used refurb they sent you. And AT&T keeps your original phone to refurb for the next time.

It is simply amazing that anyone falls for this scam and AT&T has not been sued.

You could try Pocket PC Techs; they have a phone evaluation and screen replacement service on some HTC phones. Probably won't be cheap, but maybe an alternative if you don't want to go with Warranty Service. The AT&T service sounds like the worst!

Do you know if using PCTech or another 3rd party invalidate the warranty?

I don't know but they're pretty good at responding to questions. My guess is that it does invalidate the warranty. Perhaps Pocket PC Techs warranties their repairs.

While this is technically true, I don't think AT&T chacks them very thoroughly. I once did a warranty replacement on a Moto Slvr that I dropped in a glass of water. AT&T sent me the replacement one, I sent them back mine, and never had one problem. I also had a Treo 750 before the Tilt, and had 3 warranty replacements done after upgrading to WM6, never had one problem returning any of them. Warranty replacement department is MUCH nicer than the other departments lol. Every replacement phone I have received, and it has been many (I won't even tell you how many times I had to replace my first Razr) has been like new. In fact, I am not even sure they were refurbished, because they all looked brand new to me.

I am glad to hear that you had good luck. I decided not to chance it and sent the phone into the AT&T repair depot in Houston directly. The repair people were very nice. However, they say they have seen a lot of screen failures.

A few other things I learned.

- Insurance is not available for phones with the touch screens and a lot of the smart phones. This includes not only the Tilt, but also iPhone, etc. Details are on the AT&T website. However, some stores are not aware of this and have been adding insurance onto plans.

- Apparently HTC themselves do not repair the Tilt. When I called HTC they said that AT&T handles the repairs.
