Cant get Edge to work on Unlocked phone

I had an 8gb iphone that I updated to 1.1.2 and couldnt downgrade it to 1.1.1.

I ended up selling that phone and bought a 4GB unlocked phone on eBay.

Everything works fine, but it says it cant find EDGE and I have tried to read up on how to activate it, but it doesnt work. My Wifi works fine at home but EDGE doesnt work.

Apple says its because I have my old iphone activated and I need to activate this phone. I am afraid it will screw everything up if I do that.

On the installer that comes with the phone I do have the EDGE/Bluetooth fix from http://iphone.unlock.no/ but it says to go to setup/edge and go to your service provider for network settings

I just called ATT and told them that I got a new phone and that I have a new IMEI number and they switched it on my contract. Maybe that will work, we will see in a little while.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
