help, so the phone was used in the cold (mountains/snow boarding). After for some reasons, not sure if it was because of the cold or not, the bottom portion of the phone does not respond to touch (the area where the dock items are and the slider to unlock)

i restored the phone but still does not work. do you think its the screen that was damaged and i'll have to get a new screen? any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was at the genius bar for power brick problem and the guy next to me had the same issue with his touch screen. The genius look at it for about 5 minutes and replace it with a brand new one. He's an AT&T customer though.

I am guessing that you are with T-Mobile. I don't think there's a way that they will repair/replace your unit without having an AT&T account - they usually ask for your AT&T mobile number before doing anything to your phone.

You can try but I am not sure if there's a way for you to make your case with them...

I had the same problem with my 1st iPhone after I dropped it- The bottom portion of the screen (slide to unlock) stopped working. It's a common problem and there are discussions about this on the Apple Support Discussion Boards. I brought the iPhone into an Apple Store at the Genius bar and they gave me a new iphone in 2 minutes.

I would suggest going to an Apple Store (dont tell them about how it happened though, just say it suddenly stopped working).

well the thing is that i bought the phone on-line and have it unlocked to tombile. I don't think the phone has apple care either.

My phone was unlocked and I had this problem. I just restored it and then did a false activation and popped my AT&T sim card in. It said no service, but I just told the guy I only used the iPhone for data, and since the screen wasnt working I suspended my account to save the money until I got a working phone. That is why I had no service. He bought it. I just told him I had a company phone, and the iPhone was for primarily data, so it wasnt a need for me, and sense I was traveling I could not make it to the apple store. They replaced it immediately, and told me to call AT&T and resume my account. They did not ask for my mobile number or anything. The best part, my problem with the screen was not consistent and it was actually working fine when I got to the apple store - they still replaced it! Dont worry, just restore the phone and you should have no problem. They did not even ask me for my receipt. They have a one year warranty, and sense they came out in June there is not one is a consumers hand that is more than a year old!

Restore the phone to factory settings (You have nothing to lose at this point) and take it to an Apple store (don't forget your at&t sim card!) They'll lay their hands on it and heal it fast. This might cost you to replace it, if you've purchased it third party. Not sure about that.

Mine did the same but without the drop/cold. Two months after getting it and bam! no access to the bottom dock icons. Restored the phone and got it replaced within 20 minutes with the original receipt.
