Centro on Verizon - possible?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any comments as to the feasability of getting a Sprint Centro to work on Verizon?

I have not purchased one yet. But I would like to use it on Verizon. I do not NEED the web data but if I could get that to work with their plans that would be great.

I am not asking for a walk-through, but if someone can post their comments or point me the way, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi,

I successfuly used a Sprint Centro on my Cricket account.

I was able to do this because of 3 things:

1. Cricket *will* activate any foreign ESN, including the ESN (well, MEID actually) of my Centro (Foreign=They did not originally sell this phone)
2. I was able to unlock my Centro (Using my computer and the usb hotsync cable, I got my 6-digit SPC code, and then changed it to 000000)
3. I was able to load cricket's PRL onto my Centro. Now when I dial *228, I hear cricket's OTA programming music, instead of Sprint's.

If you can get Verizon to accept the MEID of the Centro, then it is possible to use it with Verizon service.

With my Centro, voice calls/text messaging worked just fine for the day or two I used the phone, and I am still working on getting 1X DATA going, then EVDO. I have gotten 1X DATA going on all other models of Treo with Cricket (600, 650, 700p, 700w, 700wx, 755p, either from sprint or verizon), but this Centro is being a bit more difficult I hate to say. Specifically I am having trouble disabling Power Vision, but I will figure it out very soon.

Thank you very much for your informative reply!

I don't know if they will allow a foreign ESN, but maybe with their new 'open' policy they will....it would be best if someone already tried this so I knew the results

I have one question for you - did you get the unlock code from Sprint? I am assuming you bought the phone at full retail price?

Thanks so much,

Josh

The SPC code cannot be get with CDMAUpdater yet as with 700/755p
so no solution for now

please inform me too

The modem firmware is different. I don't even know what the chipset it is using. (someone with Centro please do an ATIx) command in the hyperterminal.

It also uses MEID instead of ESN, which already mean the chipset is different and is not MSM6500c (I think)

And how did you get/ change SPC Code??
Thanks

Don't bother wasting your time, guys.

Not only is the program not yet in effect, but when it is, they will only activate devices that have been "tested".

The good news:

Verizon is probably going to get the Centro in coming months anyway. Sprint negotiated 90 days of exclusivity, but that ends in February.

Of course, there's no guarantee Verizon will pick it up. But AT&T is grabbing the GSM version (in white!), and there's been rumblings about a blue version on Verizon, too. (Blue might be nice. Verizon always gets the most boring colors, y'know?)

on that note.. here is a photo of said Blue - and another white model - that are not yet released by anyone with further speculation one 'might' be for Verizon

well, the door was further opened today given Verizon's announcement in their press conference that they are going full steam ahead with their perviously mentioned open-network policy, "Any Apps, Any Device".

should this be true, seems even if Verizon did not pick up the Centro and have it branded, this new policy 'might' allow one to bring the GSM AT&T model over.

guess we will see ow this pans out.

Etard Verizon is a CDMA provider you cannot use GSM on their network even with their "open network poilicy". The technologies are incompatible with each other.

oops.. I meant Sprint, not AT&T.. they are also CDMA like Verizon, no?

Posted by: Robin24k

Yes, Sprint is also CDMA.

you know.. the more i think about this.. an actual Verizon branded Centro.... the more I think it will not happen.

Simply because there are so many rumors, but not from valid sources. never any 'insider' slips. no photos. the only kind of legit 'rumor' - seen earlier - came from a pundit that did not work for Verizon and was just speculating about Verizon getting the centro. heck, when the rumors started flying about ATT - pictures even surfaced. and when new colors were rumored for Sprint, photos surfaced... in the case of Verizon, nothing is surfacing.

I have a Google Alert setup for 'Palm Centro Verizon' - and everyday it sends me the latest in any mention on the web, and for months now, nothing but that one pundits speculating comment was of any real value in this area.
